North Carolina Digital Learning Competencies Update

At the April State Board of Education Meeting, the Office of Digital Teaching and Learning proposed an update to the North Carolina Digital Learning Competencies. The proposed changes were the result of 4 job-alike workgroups that included Classroom Teachers, Administrators, Coaches, and School Library Media Coordinators from each of the 8 regions. The educators on these workgroups looked at the updated North Carolina Digital Learning Plan, the North Carolina Digital Learning Standards for Students, and the North Carolina Portrait of a Graduate to ensure the updated Digital Learning Competencies aligned with these items. The State Board of Education Passed the suggested update to align with the standards created by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). This includes updates for the Digital Learning Competencies for Teachers and the Digital Learning Competencies for School Administrators. This also includes a new strand called the Digital Learning Competencies for Coaching. While these updated competencies will begin to be highlighted at the 2023 NCBOLD conferences and additional support will be made available following those dates, all educators in the state of North Carolina have access to an ISTE membership. This membership provides a multitude of resources aligned to these competencies. For questions about the updated Digital Learning Competencies or ISTE Memberships, please contact Dr. Ashley McBride (ashley.mcbride@dpi.nc.gov).

Keyboard contest

WINNERS!  North Carolina Learning.com Spring 2023 Keyboarding Contest

Good Afternoon Learners!

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone that participated in the second annual North Carolina Learning.com Spring 2023 Keyboarding Contest! We had amazing participation this year and it’s time to congratulate our winners!

After some consideration (and strong competition), I decided to award the top three participating elementary schools (1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place) and the top three participating middle schools (1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place).

All contest winners will receive a personalized Learning.com banner, special shout-out on social media, and of course, BRAGGING RIGHTS! We encourage you to share this awesome news with your educators. You also may want to check out our editable Student Certificates (PPT, PDF, and Canva template available in OTC) to award your individual classes.

Thank you, everyone, for your support and for practicing those essential keyboarding skills while having fun! Keyboarding skills help students transfer their thinking about the topic instead of focusing on locating keys on the keyboard. As a reminder, this brings us to our recommended Prep for Online Assessments Unit (see attachment).

Have a fabulous week!

Best,

Tiffany
