In an effort to keep stakeholders informed, the NCDPI ELA Team provides monthly updates that contain the latest announcements and current news regarding the Literacy Instruction Standards. These updates are sent every first Friday of the month.

Spring Issue of the ELA SCOOP Now Available!

LIS Series Issue 3: Spring 2023

Comprehension: Discussion and Writing, Strategy Instruction, and Building Knowledge

Over the 22-23 school year, this series of The SCOOP will focus on providing more context on quality literacy instruction through the lens of the Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS). Over the course of four issues, readers can expect to take a deeper dive into key literacy components and their standards.  Each section will also have a “Try It” suggestion for educators and PLCs to reflect on and adapt their current instruction.

This issue focuses on the LIS Components of Comprehension: Discussion and Writing, Comprehension: Strategy Instruction, Comprehension: Knowledge Building and includes elementary considerations, secondary considerations, and "Try It" suggestions for PLCs.

Last Two LIS Learning Series Sessions for 22-23

 

Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, there will be a series of professional learning involving multiple content areas.  The LIS are to be used by all teachers in every content area for core instruction.  This
series will focus on integrating the Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS) into standards-aligned content area instruction. These sessions are open to K-12 educators. View recordings from previous sessions.

Updated SEL Resource

 

The 2020 SEL Mapping Document has been updated to map the SEL Competencies to the Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS)
