Monthly Standards Update -- 22-23 SY 9th Issue
In March 2021, the North Carolina State Board of Education unanimously approved the 2020 ELD Standard Course of Study (SCOS) for implementation in the 2022-2023 school year.
In an effort to keep stakeholders informed during the Initial Implementation phase, the NCDPI ML/Title III Team provides monthly standards updates that contain the latest announcements and current news regarding the ELD SCOS. These updates are sent every first Tuesday of the month.

2023 Growing Success for Multilingual Learners Summer Conference
Building Relationships for Multilingual Learner Success | June 20- 22, 2023
The NCDPI ML/Title III Team invites ALL educators of Multilingual Learners (MLs) to participate in the Growing Success for MLs Summer Conference.
This year's conference will be held at McDeeds Elementary School in Southern Pines, NC.
During this summer’s conference, educators will have the following
opportunities:
- Best Practices;
- Common Space: Collaboration and Co-Teaching for MLs;
- Engaging Schools, Families, & Communities for ML Success;
- Glimpse of GLAD;
- Making Content Comprehensible with SIOP; and
- Taking Flight for Academic Success: Integrating Content and Language Development.

Understanding the ELD Standards Canvas Course:
This Canvas course is directed to those interested in learning about the NC English Language Development (ELD) Standard Course of Study. This course provides an overview as well as an in-depth, close reading of the standards. This is a great resource for beginning and lateral entry educators--and even veteran educators! *Note: This is a public Canvas course; users do not need a Canvas account to access this course. Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS) Learning Series
Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, there will be a series of professional learning involving multiple content areas. The LIS are to be used by all teachers in every content area for core instruction. This series will focus on integrating the Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS) into standards-aligned content area instruction. These sessions are open to K-12 educators.

NC ELD Standards Resource Hub
The NCDPI ML/Title III Team is here to support you in the implementation of the ELD Standards in 22-23! The ELD Standards Hub has grown from a few documents in 2021 to over 20 resources in February of 2023.
The ELD-Standards-Based PD page now includes content standards specific PD archives and resources for Arts Education, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and English Language Arts.
We continue to add to the resources and develop ways to increase the impact of the ELD standards on ML education!
