The Global Educator Digital Badge
The NCDPI Global Educator Digital Badge (GEDB) provides an opportunity for educators to focus their professional development on developing their own global context and understanding of how to integrate global education throughout curricula. It also provides the opportunity to build global competency in students. The State Board of Education approved North Carolina Global Educator Digital Badge (GEDB) is available for the following educator categories:
- Teacher
- Teacher Leadership Specialist
- Library Media Coordinator
- Instructional Technology Facilitator
- School Counselor
- Career Development Coordinator
- School Social Worker, School Psychologist
- Speech-Language Pathologist
- Instructional Central Office Staff
- Principal/Assistant Principal, Superintendent

The Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies: Book Sets
The Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies offers book collections available for K-12 and collegiate level instruction to borrow free of cost. We offer book sets as well as class sets. The book sets are made up a variety of books related to a topic or age group and are for educators wanting to foster cross-cultural awareness and teach their students about Latin America and the Caribbean. The class sets are ideal for a class or small group of students. Books can be checked out for a semester at a time and can be mailed to your school free of cost.

K-12 Educator Workshop
Using Authentic News Sources in French as a Foreign Language Classes
The workshop will consist of a roundtable, theoretical contributions and practical application in smaller and larger groups, an inter-state dialogue, and a debriefing. The content of each micro-training will be contextualized to the workshop topic and adapted to the needs of K-12 teachers. Participants will receive a certificate for .4 Continuing Education Units.
Topics will include: 1) Teaching authentic news, 2) Identifying and accessing resources such as TV programs, audio sources, websites, blogs, streaming, and social media news from across the French-speaking world), 3) Conceptualizing different components of a pedagogical unit for different levels of language learners; and 4) Utilizing techniques of discussion, including constructing arguments, storytelling games in class, the francophone world, etc.
Tentative Agenda
- 10am-11am: roundtable & discussion (everyone all in one room)
- 11am-12pm: workshops (smaller groups in multiple spaces/Zoomers in Breakout rooms)
- 12pm-1pm: lunch
- 1pm-2pm: inter-state dialogue on challenges & opportunities (everyone all in one room)
- 2pm-3pm: debrief & reflections
*Session times include small breaks.
The workshop will be held in English, and will be available for in-person and hybrid/virtual participation. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

In February of 2022, Russia shocked the world by launching a full-scale invasion of its democratic neighbor, Ukraine. With hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced, the war has been a disaster for both countries. After 30 years of peaceful coexistence, why did Russia embark on a war of aggression against its neighbor? What did the Russian government want to achieve and what instead has been the outcome? Where do Russia and Ukraine go from here? Professor Graeme Robertson, a long-time student of Russia will offer some answers to these critical questions. Educators from all disciplines are welcome!
