NC Healthy Schools Employee Mental Health Toolkit

February 16th and March 13th, NCIPH and NC Healthy Schools are offering hour-long virtual workshops to showcase how schools and school employees can use the resources in the N.C. Healthy Schools Employee Mental Health Toolkit to help prevent burnout.

The description and links to register are below:

North Carolina Healthy Schools Employee Mental Health Toolkit Training

Thursday, Feb. 16, 3-4 p.m.

Monday, March 13, Noon-1 p.m.

By understanding the importance of mental well-being and recognizing the physical, mental, emotional and social symptoms in themselves and others, administrators, other managers, teachers and staff can ultimately prevent burnout. In turn, they are likely to have a workforce with lower levels of stress, improved school employee attendance, lower levels of employee turnover, and an increased ability to model positive emotions for students. The North Carolina Healthy Schools Employee Mental Health Toolkit adds an important systemic layer of prevention and intervention in a coordinated way. During this session, participants will review the resources compiled in the toolkit that are available to school employees and administrators.

  • Review toolkit information, guidance and references that support the mental well-being of school staff and administrators.
  • Identify at least two resources to support their own and other employees’ mental well-being.

Register for the toolkit training.

NC Portrait of a Graduate

Portrait of a Graduate

An initiative led by the N.C Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to define the skills and mindsets students need for success after high school. aims to ensure that North Carolina students are well equipped for the broadest range of postsecondary opportunities. Aligning with State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Catherine Truitt’s 2022 focus on the “Year of the Workforce,” the Portrait can be adopted by schools and districts to better prepare the state’s 1.5 million students for civic life, career or college.

As determined by the design teams that were part of the initiative, the statewide Portrait identifies seven competencies that students should possess upon graduation from high school to help them thrive in the 21st century.  To learn more about the Portrait and competencies, click here.
