CSAB Basics
- CSAB meetings are streamed live every month on the DPI Youtube page.
- Meeting agendas are posted to Eboard approximately a week prior to each meeting.
- The next regularly-scheduled CSAB meeting is January 9-10 at the DPI Building in Raleigh.
- CSAB member lists, previous minutes, and other information is housed on the OCS web page.
- CSAB action items are heard the following month at State Board of Education meetings. Those meeting agendas are also found on Eboard.
December Applicant Interviews
Standard Applicants
The Charter Schools Advisory Board heard from five second round applicants in December. These applicants were seeking approval to open in Fall 2024. The CSAB recommended Agape Achievement Academy, Heritage Collegiate Leadership Academy of Wake and Riverside Leadership Academy to the State Board of Education for Ready to Open approval. The CSAB voted to recommend SBE denial for Centerpoint Classical Academy and Granite State Charter Academy. December marked the end of the 2022 charter application cycle. CSAB-approved standard applicants will go forward to the State Board of Education in January.
Accelerated Applicants
At the December SBE meeting, two accelerated charter applications were sent back to the CSAB for reconsideration. The CSAB voted a second time to recommend Legacy Classical Academy and ALA Monroe for SBE approval.

Reports
Renewals
Mrs. Jenna Cook, Consultant, Office of Charter Schools, continued the renewals report for Cohort 2023. Renewal schools were provided the opportunity to make 15-30 minute presentations to the CSAB ahead of January recommendations.
New Business
Ms. Kristie Van Auken delivered a Portrait of a Graduate presentation to CSAB. Dr. Jeni Corn and Dr. Terry Stoops presented data on NAEP in NC and lost instructional time to the board.
Ms. Ashley Baquero, Director, introduced two new hires from The Office of Charter Schools to the CSAB. OCS welcomes Dr. Natasha Norins and Ms. Nicole Niewinski to the team.
NCDPI Happenings
State offices will be closed for the Christmas holiday on December 23, 26 and 27, 2022. State offices will also be closed on Monday, January 2, 2023 to observe the New Year's Day holiday.
