Standards Review Phase Submissions
Available until January 20
Two Standard-by-Standard surveys are part of the standards review phase and will be available through Friday, January 20, 2023, at 5:00 pm Eastern. The purpose of both surveys, All Stakeholders for individuals and PSUs for teams, is to collect feedback on the current standards from educators, administrators, parents, students, institutions of higher education, business/industry representatives, national organizations, and other education agencies.
The PSU Standard-by-Standard survey for teams to submit takes about 30 - 45 minutes to complete, depending on how it's deployed within each public school unit (PSU). World Language leaders have been sent the survey links below so that they can convene local teams and do the survey together.
Every group's voice is important! If your PSU has multiple teams for courses, languages, programs, schools, etc., you can submit as many PSU surveys as you need to in order to get the maximum amount of input from your PLCs or other teacher groups.
|
Completing the PSU survey as a team ensures accurate PSU representation. The State Board of Education (SBE) expectation is for 80% or more of districts to submit the PSU survey, along with charter, lab, and regional schools.
So far, 75% of PSUs (or 87 out of 115) have submitted at least one survey. Feel free to view the PSU Surveys tally, which is updated periodically and shows PSUs in green that have already submitted, along with the number of surveys they have done.

World Languages Data Review Committee (DRC) applications can also be submitted until 5:00 pm on Friday, January 20, 2023.
The World Languages DRC will consist of a range of external stakeholders and will be chosen from across the state’s eight regions to represent varying perspectives and experiences regarding the current Standard Course of Study, the North Carolina World Language Essential Standards.
DRC members review the data collected and compiled from Standard-by-Standard surveys, regional focus groups, and individual interviews, as well as research, policies, and legislation that pertain to World Language education. Once they analyze the feedback, they make recommendations that help drive both the review and revision phases.
Note: DRC members cannot serve on the Standards Writing Team (SWT) that is convened during the revision phase.

- Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) Blue Book Study (1 CEU)
- Introduction to LinguaFolio (1 CEU)
The #GoOpenNC group discussions, and other online forums or asynchronous professional learning options, are being developed and shared by the NCDPI World Languages Team as free, on-demand professional learning opportunities to replace the World Language Webinar Series. Check this area for details about the LinguaFolio Professional Learning for 2022 - 2023 and other options as they are added.
The webinar archives from the past annual webinar series for World Languages, Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I), and LinguaFolio are linked in this area so that the presentation materials (slides, handouts, and broadcast recordings) can be used and/or adapted for local professional development.

FLANC provides two professional development conferences each year, regional ShareFests, the Catalyst newsletter, Teacher of the Year awards, various scholarships and grants, etc. NCDPI presentations from past FLANC Conferences are also posted in this area of the Canvas hub.
