The NCDPI LinguaFolio Team is excited about the discussions in the #GoOpenNC group, LinguaFolio for North Carolina. Please peruse the information below and in the LinguaFolio for North Carolina Canvas Hub at bit.ly/LF4NCHub, and get involved with others using LinguaFolio.

LF PD

Professional Development for 2022 - 2023

The Professional Learning Booklet for 2022 - 2023 is available as a PDF or you can make your own Google copy to participate in this asynchronous learning opportunity, which can be completed throughout the school year.

Participants work at their own pace as they read the information, watch the videos, complete the activities, and submit a survey to receive a certificate of completion worth 10 contact hours.

More details are on the Professional Development page of the LF4NC Canvas Hub, and several Apply & Reflect activities are already launched.

LF Webinars

Synchronous Meetups in 2023. *Register*

There are two optional synchronous meetups planned for educators working on the asynchronous professional development. These sessions are an opportunity to come together as a group and learn from one another about LinguaFolio questions and implementation experiences.

The live sessions are scheduled from 4:00 - 5:00 pm in WebEx on these dates:

Please click on the hyperlinked date(s) above or go to page 27 in the Professional Learning Booklet for 2022 - 2023 to register for one or both of the synchronous meetups.

LF Classroom Materials

Classroom Materials: Learning Inventory

The third LinguaFolio Biography component we're focusing on this year is the Learning Inventory, and it's available in 13 languages in both PDF and Word versions.

The Learning Inventory is a survey designed to help students reflect on what they've already accomplished in using the language they're learning, inside and outside the classroom. Learners rate themselves on how often (frequently, sometimes, seldom, never) they've read, seen, heard, written, and/or presented in the language. Here are a few examples:

  • Read newspapers and magazines
  • Watched video/films for information and/or entertainment
  • Conversed with native speakers on the phone or in social networks
  • Written short notes or emails to friends
  • Reported about my experiences or adventures
  • Other

Go to the Classroom Materials page of the LF4NC Canvas Hub to find links for English as a Second Language (ESL) and World Languages teachers that will take you to where you can download the LinguaFolio Biography components in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Urdu, and Vietnamese - and in the format that works best for you and your students.

Let's keep talking about LinguaFolio on the Discussions tab in the #GoOpenNC group, LinguaFolio for North Carolina! Several conversations are underway about the PD for 2022 - 2023, and anyone can join us at any time. Here are the newest Apply & Reflect discussions:

#GoOpenNC is available to all and the LinguaFolio for North Carolina group discussions are public. When you are ready to respond, you can login with your NCEdCloud account and click "Reply" or, if you're not an NC Public School educator, you can post using the Jamboard for each discussion.
