Get Ready to Celebrate International Education Week

IEW Week

We invite you to submit student work and voices as part of North Carolina’s celebration of International Education Week - November 14-18, 2022.

International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. International Education Week offers the chance to expand awareness of and interest in global education, and to gain a new cultural understanding by sampling a small part of life beyond the shores of America. A variety of IEW activities are being planned by NCDPI to promote International Education Week in North Carolina.

The NCDPI IEW Student Showcase provides students an opportunity to share their interest and understanding of global issues, global learning, and cultural awareness through various projects, presentations, or work samples. Virtual submissions of student work samples demonstrating Global Education competencies through examples such as Student/School Performances or Presentations, Student Work Narratives, Visual Art, Project Samples, or Student Interviews are welcome. Selected submissions will be highlighted on the NCDPI Facebook Page.

Student work samples (individual or group/class) may be submitted by educators by sending an email with all information listed below directly to Sayward.Grindley@dpi.nc.gov

To learn more and to submit an entry, visit, bit.ly/IEWShowcaseInfo

Submissions will be individually and collectively highlighted via social media during IEW - please follow the @NCGlobalEd Twitter account, the NCDPI Facebook page, and use the hashtags #NCIEW,  #NCisGlobal, and #IEW2022.

DRC Applications close Nov. 18th!

Data Review Committee (DRC) Applications

Submit by November 18 if interested

Applications for the Arts Education Data Review Committee (DRC) are now open through Friday, November 18. Individuals can apply to be on the DRC for Dance, Music, Theatre Arts, OR Visual Arts.

DRC members review the data collected and compiled from Standard-by-Standard surveys, regional focus groups, and interviews, as well as research, policies, and legislation that pertain to Arts Education.

Note: The DRC analyzes the feedback and makes recommendations that help drive both the review and revision phases, so individuals chosen for the DRC cannot serve on the Standards Writing Team (SWT) that is convened during the revision phase.

  World Languages DRC

Applications can be submitted through November 18, 2022. The Arts Education DRC will consist of a range of external stakeholders, including: K-12 educators, educational leaders, university professors, content professionals, experts from partner organizations, and community members. The DRC members will be chosen from across the state’s eight regions (pictured in the map below) and represent varying perspectives and experiences regarding the current Standard Course of Study, the North Carolina Arts Education Essential Standards.

SBE Region Map

This application is for those who desire to become part of the Arts Education DRC and the Standards review and revision process. DRC members are selected using a clear process of solicitation, application, screening, and approval. The NCDPI Arts Education team trains the DRC members on the data collected and how to analyze it. The DRC then analyzes all data points for trends, themes, and ultimately recommendations for revision. For more information about the DRC, including the selection process and scope of work, please see the details in the application or view pages 14 - 16 of the North Carolina SCOS Internal Procedures Manual.

Please use these links to complete the Arts Education DRC application or share with others who you think would be a good fit for this work:

Applicants will be notified of their selection at the end of November - early December, and DRC work will begin in late January - early February of 2023.

*Please note these dates are tentative and subject to change.

All Stakeholders Standard-by-Standard Survey

In August, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Office of Academic Standards’ team kicked off the review phase for K-12 Arts, K-12 Guidance, and K-12 World Language Standards.  This cohort of standards will follow the NC Standard Course of Study Manual in terms of process and timeline.

Per the Internal Procedures Manual, the review phase consists of data collection and analysis, as well as research.  The NCDPI team is seeking input on the current K-12 Arts, K-12 Guidance, and K-12 World Language standards from educators, administrators, parents, students, institutions of higher education, business/industry representatives, national organizations, and other education agencies.

These surveys are being shared to gather thoughtful input and comments from stakeholders familiar with the Arts, Guidance, and/or World Language Standard Course of Study in order to inform revision decisions, which may include changes, clarifications, additions, deletions, or replacements to the current standards.

Any individual who wishes to provide input on the Standard Course of Study may complete this survey.  This survey is estimated to take about 10 to 20 minutes to complete, depending on how many grades or courses you choose to review.

We thank you for your time and input. Your feedback is extremely valuable to the standards review and revision process.
