JNCL & ACTFL Articulating Change Webinar Series

The Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL) has announced their upcoming four-part webinar series Articulating Change which will build advocates’ capacity to make the case for languages on the Hill, in the boardroom, and through the classroom. The series positions advocacy as an act of communication and storytelling by tying each topic to a mode of communication as defined by the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards.

The Articulating Change webinar series and supporting professional development activities are made possible by sponsorship from ACTFL. In each webinar, attendees will hear personal and professional stories from guest speakers and JNCL leaders who will share their language experience and understanding of how different types of communication impact audiences and highlight the value of communicative action in advocacy work. At the conclusion of the presentation portion of the webinars, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a professional development activity and debrief led by ACTFL educators to build experience and confidence in employing the three-modes driven language instruction as advocacy.

Here are the dates and topics for the Articulating Change webinar series:

  • September 29: Advocacy as an Act of Interpersonal Communication
  • October 27: Advocacy as an Act of Interpretive Communication
  • December 1: Advocacy as an Act of Presentational Communication
  • January 12: Advocacy as an Act of Storytelling

For additional details and registration information for one or all of the webinars, please go to the JNCL press release.

NCCAT

NCCAT Global Ready Schools Planning Institute

October 24 - 27 in Cullowhee

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) provides free professional development to NC educators in residential, online, virtual, school, and regional settings.

On October 24 - 27, NCCAT will host a Global Ready Schools Planning Institute on the Cullowhee campus. School teams of 3 - 5 (including a required administrator) will review the attributes of the Global-Ready Schools Rubric, consider what each attribute means in the context of their individual school, assess the school’s readiness, draft a strategic plan, and develop next steps for school improvement or to apply for the NC Global-Ready Schools designation.

The institute will include whole group discussion to learn from best practices across the state and individual school team planning. Schools which currently have a Global focus or have previously applied for the NC Global-Ready Schools designation but did not receive it will benefit the most from this institute.

North Carolina certified PreK-12 grade teachers who are employed in North Carolina public schools, including charter schools, are eligible to attend NCCAT programs. (This may include school administrators, counselors, library media specialists, lead teachers, and mentors.) NCCAT provides food, lodging, and programming.
