In 2010, Congress passed House Resolution 275 designating the week beginning with the second Sunday in September as National Arts in Education Week. During this week, the field of arts education joins together in communities across the country to advocate, educate and celebrate the impact and transformative power of the arts in education.
In celebration of Arts in Education Week, Sept. 11-17, the Department of Public Instruction will showcase marching bands performing on Halifax Mall. The EE Smith Magnificent Marching Machine (Cumberland County) will perform on Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Corinth Holders High School (Johnston County) will perform on Thursday, Sept. 15. How will you be celebrating? Let us know! Email us or tag us on twitter @ARTSEDNC. Share your #BecauseOfArtsEd story during #ArtsEdWeek!

North Carolina's Vision for Comprehensive Arts Education
In today's globally competitive world, innovative thinking and creativity are essential for all school children. High quality, standards-based instruction in the arts develops these skills and effectively engages, retains, and prepares future-ready students for graduation and success in an entrepreneurial economy. Dance, music, theatre arts, and visual arts, taught by licensed arts educators and integrated throughout the curriculum, are critical to North Carolina's 21st century education.
