K-12 Science Standards Review Update
Greetings from the NCDPI K-12 Science Team,
We know that many of you have just finished your first few days in school for the 2022-2023 school year, and for our year-round colleagues, some have been in for almost two months.
We wanted to share some updates on the K-12 Science Standards review/revision process since the start of the summer.
- The All-Stakeholder and PSU standard-by-standard surveys have been completed. We had over 4,500 responses to the All-Stakeholder survey. 96 LEAs and 22 charters completed the PSU survey.
- Over the summer the K-12 Science team conducted nine focus groups with teachers across the State along with nine 1:1 interviews.
- We received just over 150 applications for the Data Review Committee (DRC) and another 150+ applications for the Standards Writing Team (SWT). The DRC has been finalized and the SWT is nearly finalized.
- The DRC kicks off their work this week (Sept. 6th) and is expected to complete their review of the survey, focus group, and interview data by the end of September.
- The SWT is scheduled to start their review of the standards the second week of October. The first draft of any K-12 Science Standards revisions is planned to shared for public review in early November.
Thank you to everyone who has helped contribute feedback so far and please continue to look for further updates and opportunities to provide input as the process begins to shift to the revision stage.
Respectfully,
