Out Teach

Out Teach is offering a limited number of full scholarships to teachers across the country for our Virtual Professional Learning Community (PLC) during the 2022-23 school year. The PLC will meet virtually for six sessions throughout the year to help teachers integrate experiential learning outdoors into their classroom practice.  It was originally launched to support teachers during pandemic school closures, but has been continued to help every teacher be that teacher —the one who moves students from inspiration to action!  Teachers can CLICK HERE to learn more and find the brief application.

Student Opportunities

Water Education PenPals

Water Education Pen Pals

The Water Writers Pen Pal Program is starting up again for the upcoming school year.  Are you interested in pairing your students with a class to exchange letters about their watershed? This program is completely free and easy to join.

To register your class, sign up here.

By the end of September, you will be paired with another class in the same grade, but from another watershed or river basin.  You will coordinate with your partnering teacher on when you’ll send the letters.

Not sure how to support your students to write? We have some letter templates and graphic organizers available in our Water Writers Resources Folder.  We will add more resources to this folder too, so feel free to bookmark it. Note: Since we are limited to only pairing classes that register, if there isn’t another class with the same/similar head-count and grade, we may not be able to pair you.

Feel free to spread the word with all your educator friends- this is great for an ELA or even Social Studies Teacher!  It could even be cool to pair some art classes to exchange artwork!

Feel free to contact Lauren Daniel (Lauren.Daniel@ncdenr.gov) with questions.

Duke Energy Science Night for Elementary Schools

We’re writing from the NC Science Festival/Morehead Planetarium & Science Center to let you know that our Duke Energy Science Night for Elementary Schools program is gearing up for its 12th year. This program includes a STEM kit as well as our support throughout the school year as you plan a science night for your school community.

The Duke Energy Foundation sponsorship funds 150 program kits to award at no charge to schools across NC. These are awarded using an application process that includes a review of the school’s written statement, need, demographics, and geography.

The application is open through September 23rd. Please visit our website to learn more about the program and what is included with the kit as well as more detailed instructions and timings. You will find the link to the application form there as well.
