Seal of Biliteracy Recognized in 49 of the 50 United States
It’s happening! The country is tuned in; all (including the District of Columbia) but one state has approved the Seal of Biliteracy. “The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation”.
Why is it important? “The Seal of Biliteracy encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills our students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices”. (www.sealofbiliteracy.org).
North Carolina’s Seal of Biliteracy is the Global Languages Endorsement (GLE), one of five High School Diploma Endorsements available to graduates. Students are able to show their multiliteracy in English and at least one World Language. Details about the GLE requirements are on the Global Education Recognitions page in the Students section or at https://bit.ly/NCSoBLGLE.
