Monthly Standards Update -- 12th Issue

In March 2021, the North Carolina State Board of Education unanimously approved the 2020 ELD Standard Course of Study (SCOS) for implementation in the 2022-2023 school year.

In an effort to keep stakeholders informed during the Initial Implementation phase, the NCDPI ESL/Title III Team provides monthly standards updates that contain the latest announcements and current news regarding the ELD SCOS.  These updates are sent every first Tuesday of the month.

Initial Implementation in the 22-23 SY

In the 22-23 school year, PSUs will begin initial implementation of the NC ELD Standard Course of Study. Our team is currently in the process of planning state-wide professional learning for the 22-23 school year. More information about state-wide professional learning will be made available via our listserv. To request professional learning specific to your region and/or PSU, please contact your Regional Director

Should you have any standards questions or need technical assistance, please email ESLTitleIII@dpi.nc.gov.

2022 Growing Success for Multilingual Learners Summer Conference Archive

The NCDPI ESL/Title III Team invited all educators of Multilingual Learners (MLs) to participate in the Growing Success for MLs Summer Conference from June 20-24. During this summer’s conference, educators had an opportunity to think deeply about the 2020 NC ELD Standard Course of Study (SCOS); to reimagine instruction through new ELD resources; and to exchange SCOS implementation ideas that center the needs and achievement of MLs.

NC ELD Standards Resource Hub

The NCDPI ESL/Title III Team has created the NC ELD Standards Resource Hub. This repository will house all the resources for supporting school administrators, all teachers of English learners, and EL families/caregivers during the implementation of the adopted Standard Course of Study. The range of resources offers users an opportunity to determine their own specific needs and find materials that suit them.  To access the Resource Hub, please use the short URL bit.ly/ELDStandardsHub or the direct link https://ncdpi.instructure.com/courses/6424
