Now Accepting Applications: North Carolina English Language Arts Consultative Committee

Expectations & Scope of Work

The NCDPI ELA Team is pleased to open applications for the NCDPI English Language Arts Consultative Committee (previously known as ELAAC) for the 2022-2023 school year.  Becoming an advisor for this committee provides you with the opportunity to share your expertise and collaborate with the NCDPI ELA Team and other NC educators across the state.

The main purpose of the consultative committee is to provide feedback and guidance on a number of topics and resources related to ELA standards, curriculum, and instruction.

Specific goals for 2022-2023 include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing and providing feedback on NCSCOS (K-12) resources
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on resources designed to assist districts and schools with LIS implementation
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on adolescent literacy resources and supports
  • Guest moderating and/or participating in quarterly Twitter chats
  • Contributing to the quarterly newsletter, ELA SCOOP, as needed
  • Providing guidance and ideas for future resources and training
  • Participating in online meetings/conference calls, as needed
  • Other responsibilities and expectations as decided upon by the NCDPI ELA Team

Please note that there is no compensation for this committee work.  We are searching for committed educators who bring experience and insight to the work and needs of NC English Language Arts and seek opportunities to demonstrate leadership as outlined in Professional Teaching Standard 1.  Serving on this committee allows educators to lead the teaching profession and advocate for schools and students.

The committee will meet virtually approximately 2-4 times this year to discuss the topic or resource at hand.  The first conference call will be in September 2022 - date and time TBD.  There may be follow-up questions or discussions via email and in the ELA Consultative Canvas Hub.  Because of the matters that will be discussed, advisors will need to maintain confidentiality.

Our goal is to build a committee of approximately 25 educators from various districts and charters, demographics, backgrounds, experiences, and positions.  We hope to have representation of:

  • K-12 teachers
  • Administrators
  • School based coaches
  • District level coaches
  • District level administrators
  • IHE faculty
  • English as a Second Language teachers
  • EC teachers
  • AIG teachers
  • Media specialists
  • Professional organizations

If you are interested in serving on this committee, please complete this application by COB June 30, 2022.  We will notify all advisors of their acceptance the week of August 8, 2022.
