The Symposium on Horizons in Astronomy and Physics Education (SHAPE)
Free Professional Development Opportunity
The Symposium on Horizons in Astronomy and Physics Education (SHAPE) is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2022. We are a little later than “normal” this year, but we were trying to avoid the most known conflicts. After the success last year, and the continued uncertainty around COVID, SHAPE will be held virtually via Zoom.
Physics/Astronomy teachers and other science teachers are invited to this symposium on current advances in physics, astronomy, and the teaching of these subjects in secondary schools. Each year the symposium features talks by leaders in the field about astronomy and physics research, the application of physics in a variety of contexts, and physics and astronomy pedagogy. This year's symposium will include presentations on topics such as neutrino physics by Prof. Akaa Daniel Ayangeakaa (UNC-CH), DEI in the HS classroom by Dr. Alexis Knaub (AAPT), careers in physics by Mr. Jeffrey Cohen (BDI), and the Webb Space Telescope by Dr. Greg Sloan (Space Telescope Science Institute). In addition, there will be a (virtual) tour of the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory. Check for updates of the program on the SHAPE website as the event approaches. An electronic certificate for a partial CEU will be awarded at the completion of the symposium for those who request one.
Information and Registration for SHAPE can be found at:
http://user.physics.unc.edu/~mcneil/SHAPE.htm
To register, click on the link at the bottom of the web page or just follow this link. A fee of . . . wait. There is no fee - we're virtual! However, advanced registration is required as only registrants will receive the Zoom link for the Symposium.
