To celebrate Arts In Our Schools Month, this year the NCDPI Arts Ed Team will release video interviews weekly with artists who make Art and who Work in NC. The Arts Education Standard Course of Study directs students to learn about NC Art and Artists in grades 4 and 8, as well as to learn about careers in the arts in the high school BIPA standards. Feel free to share these standards-aligned videos with your students!
The workforce is rapidly evolving. More jobs than ever before require post-secondary education and durable skills like strong communication and leadership. Our students are our greatest hope for building strong communities and a talent pipeline for a vibrant North Carolina, but they need to be well-prepared to compete for high-wage, high-demand careers.
That’s why we are reframing what a K-12 education is all about. It is not enough to simply cross the graduation stage; students need to be prepared to pursue the post-secondary plans of their choice. That’s why Superintendent Catherine Truitt is deeming 2022 the Year of the Workforce.
We cannot wait, the future of workforce is here and now. Learn More
Zalman Raffael - Artistic Director & CEO of Carolina Ballet
Our fourth video features Zalman Raffael, Artistic Director and CEO of the Carolina Ballet interviewed at their studio in Raleigh, NC. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the ballet and the ballet school, Raffael choreographs, creates, and designs each ballet season. He discusses how he went about creating the new ballet, Snow White, from exploring deeper meanings in Grimm's Fairy tale to choreographing the dance, casting 7 co-ed miners, and exploring how the adjectives of "Shiny," "Radiant," and "Bright" are used to describe the princess. Raffael goes on to share how NC has a special place in his heart, and shares how dance saved his life.

ELD Standards Resource Hub
Stakeholders have different areas of expertise and are often responsible for different aspects of educational planning and delivery; however, collectively, they are responsible for the success of Multilingual Learners. Each teacher can contribute to deliver coordinated educational experiences for Multilingual Learners according to their own qualifications and areas of expertise (WIDA 2020). To aid content area educators in supporting Multilingual Learners, please visit the NCDPI ESL/Title III Team’s ELD Standards Resource Hub.

North Carolina's Vision for Comprehensive Arts Education
In today's globally competitive world, innovative thinking and creativity are essential for all school children. High quality, standards-based instruction in the arts develops these skills and effectively engages, retains, and prepares future-ready students for graduation and success in an entrepreneurial economy. Dance, music, theatre arts, and visual arts, taught by licensed arts educators and integrated throughout the curriculum, are critical to North Carolina's 21st century education.
