Monthly Standards Update -- 8th Issue
In March 2021, the North Carolina State Board of Education unanimously approved the 2020 ELD Standard Course of Study (SCOS) for implementation in the 2022-2023 school year. This approval marked the start of the Installation Phase where the NCDPI ESL/Title III Team prepares for initial implementation of the ELD SCOS through planning PSU professional development, support, and resource development.
In an effort to keep stakeholders informed during the Installation Phase, the NCDPI ESL/Title III Team provides monthly standards updates that contain the latest announcements and current news regarding the ELD SCOS. These updates are sent every first Tuesday of the month.

PSU leadership in these areas is essential to making effective decisions about local implementation. If you are interested in attending this PD, please contact your PSU's EL Coordinator.
Archives Now Available on the Hub: Meeting the Needs of English Learners in Arts Education
"No matter how you say it, “Art” reaches across languages and geography. All students deserve to have access to high-quality arts instruction, which includes ensuring that our English Learners are able to participate in Visual Art, Dance, Theatre, and Music programs."
The NCDPI ESL/Title III and Arts Education Teams prepared a webinar series for PSU ESL and Arts Education Leaders to understand why utilizing the NC ELD Standard Course of Study in Arts Education is important, hear how arts teachers are meeting the needs of ELs in the field, and explore a new NCDPI resource with concrete examples of supporting English Learners all four arts areas.
These sessions are now archived in the ELD Standards Hub: bit.ly/ELDStandardsHub.
