2022 Fall Conference Call for Proposals due Tuesday, March 1

FLANC is currently accepting proposals for the 2022 Fall Conference, but time is running out! The deadline to submit either a session or workshop proposal using this online form is next Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Consider submitting your proposal today and/or asking a colleague to present with you!

Our conference theme is: Ubuntu~I am because we are: Uniting People through Languages.

If you have not submitted a proposal yet, think about how you can share your expertise with others:

  • How do you support students in learning languages?
  • How do you support students in making this world a better place?
  • How do you connect your students with others across the globe?
  • How do you lead at the classroom, school, or district level?
  • How do you support other educators?

We want to hear from you! We want to know what you are doing in the field and learn from you. Share your ideas with other educators across the state at the next FLANC Fall Conference, which will be held in-person on October 8 - 9, 2022, at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham.

We are looking to have presenters from both the World Language and Dual Language/Immersion fields.

For questions, please contact Charlotte Hancock, Fall Conference Chair and 1st Vice President, at 1vp@flanc.org.

From Research to Practice: Not Your Typical Book Club

February 24 at 7:00 pm Eastern

Join ACTFL for a FREE webinar-based discussion that will help you connect research to the classroom in a concrete way! The webinar will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The inaugural topic will be a lively discussion of a recent article from Foreign Language Annals (FLA): "The Seal of Biliteracy: A 10-year retrospective." The series will be hosted by ACTFL President, Victoria Russell, and this webinar will feature FLA editor Julie Sykes along with author Kristin Davin from UNC-Charlotte.

After a brief overview of the article, participants will move into breakout rooms for guided reflection before returning to the group for Q&A. Sign up for the broadcast using this form.

Lead with Languages #LanguageSuperpower Mini Posters

If you haven’t yet, join the Lead with Languages celebration by taking the #LanguageSuperpower Quiz and sharing the recent blog post with your students to help them explore community-building and advocacy activities suited to their unique strengths and interests.

There are also eight printable #LanguageSuperpower mini posters available to download from our 2022 Media Kit for your classroom, school, office, or campus. Each has a scannable QR code that directs viewers to our campaign where they can learn more about the many cognitive benefits and core skills that language learners develop in addition to their languages, including brain power, communication, cultural awareness, curiosity, empathy, future opportunities, problem-solving skills, and self-confidence.

Please see the K-20 Opportunities for Students and Educators page for additional offerings, which is on FLANC's website under the Resources tab.
