CSAB Basics
- CSAB meetings are streamed live every month on the DPI Youtube page.
- Meeting agendas are posted to Eboard approximately a week prior to each meeting.
- CSAB will hold a special-called meeting on January 26, 2022.
- The next regularly-scheduled CSAB meeting is February 7-8th at the DPI Building in Raleigh.
- CSAB member lists, previous minutes, and other information is housed on the OCS web page.
- CSAB action items are heard the following month at State Board of Education meetings. Those meeting agendas are also found on Eboard.
Applications - 2021 Cycle
January Applicant Interviews
CSAB heard from five standard timeline applicants this month. These five applicants were seeking approval to open in Fall 2023. West Triangle High School and Wayne STEM Academy were approved for recommendation to SBE. Nalanda Academy was held over for a second round. Financial Reform for Excellence in Education and Acuity Public Schools: Oxford were denied recommendation to SBE. Standard timeline (opening Fall 2023) interviews will conclude in February.

Amendments
January Requests
Lake Lure Classical Academy was approved for a mission statement change. Unity Classical Charter School was approved for an enrollment increase. All approved requests will go forward to the State Board of Education in February. For questions about the amendment process, reach out to Ashley.Baquero@dpi.nc.gov. Renewals
Renewal recommendations for Cohort 2022 were completed by the CSAB at the January meeting. Schools were recommended for either a 10,7, 5 or 3-year renewal. UpROAR Leadership and Three Rivers Academy were recommended for non-renewal. All renewal recommendations will go forward to the State Board in February.
Other Business
- Hobgood Charter School made a presentation to the CSAB on Day 2 of the January CSAB meeting.
- Ms. Ashley Baquero presented the Virtual School Enrollment Report. The CSAB approved the virtual enrollment report. The report will go forward to the State Board in February.
- Mr. Dave Machado, OCS Director, provided OCS updates.
- The state office will be closed on Monday, January 17, 2022 in observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- The 2022 Charter Application Cycle will open on Friday January 28, 2022 and run through April 29, 2022.
