 State Board of Education Vision: Every public school student in North Carolina will be empowered to accept academic challenges, prepared to pursue their chosen path after graduating high school, and encouraged to become lifelong learners with the capacity to engage in a globally-collaborative society.
State Board of Education Mission: The mission of the North Carolina State Board of Education is to use its constitutional authority to guard and maintain the right of a sound, basic education for every child in North Carolina Public Schools.

The Committee shall study issues related to education in elementary and secondary schools, including but not limited to, the following:
- Requirements of the standard course of study.
- Outcomes of the standard course of study, including the appropriate metrics.
- Opportunities for students to demonstrate competency at their own pace.
- Funding and outcomes of current programs, including partnerships with nonprofits, that support the standards and outcomes of a sound basic education.
The committee plans to consult with parents and students, leaders in both small and large businesses, industry experts, and public schools and other academic institutions.

ElevateNC and the Higher Education and Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute was an incredible opportunity to bring policy makers, P-20 public education stakeholders, legislators, community organizations, and state education leaders together to do a “deep discovery dive” of the “student life cycle” while we evaluated systems and structures that need to be dismantled and redesigned for an innovative customized education experience for each and every NC public school student.
We discussed The Role of Advising, Helping Transfer Students Stay on Track, Raising Education Attainment Rates, and Narrowing Equity Gaps in Access and Opportunity, and the Values of Persistence and Retention. An inspiring and motivating experience in listening and learning as we further collaboration and efforts to serve our communities, schools, and students.

Belk Endowmemt, Tennessee SCORE, and my colleagues, ALL true #EducatorDiplomats in this cause:) Honored to represent the NC State Board of Education, the NC Dept. of Public Instruction, and State Superintendent Catherine Truitt and to share this time and space with My NC/TN Team!
