Attendance During Exam Week(s)

To be considered in attendance, a student (except for hospital/homebound or staggered kindergarten) must be present in the school for the school day or at a place other than the school with the approval of the appropriate school official for the purpose of attending an authorized school activity. Such activities may include field trips, athletic contests, student conventions, musical festivals, or any similar approved activity.

Except as noted above, a student must be present at least one-half of the school's instructional day in order to be recorded present for that day.

NC General Statute 115C-378 states in part that no person shall encourage, entice, or counsel any child of compulsory school age to be unlawfully absent from school.

If a student is exempted from an exam and is not present in the school for the school day or not at a place other than the school with the approval of the appropriate school official for the purpose of attending an authorized school activity, the student is absent.

For questions or concerns, contact Student Accounting at studentaccounting@dpi.nc.gov.

Sync

Canvas and SIS Sync

We believe that the issues for the SIF Agent for the PowerSchool to Canvas sync have been resolved. Please check in Canvas to see if a SIS sync occurred last night. You can do this by going under the Admin Icon on the left > PSU name > SIS Import. Below the “Last Batch” heading will show the most recent sync date and any errors.

If the Canvas and SIS sync did not take place, please inform the Canvas team and Corey McNeill (corey.mcneill@dpi.nc.gov) for further investigation.

Webinars

IIS-HB

Webinars for Pearson Transcend

Pearson Transcend is an optional add-on component of Schoolnet that enables computer-adaptive benchmark testing customized to local PSU pacing guides. Currently, Transcend offers benchmarking tools for grades 3-8 ELA and Math.

After a two year pilot period, NCDPI and Pearson are excited to announce that Transcend will exit the pilot stage in the 2022-2023 school year. Transcend will be available to NC public school units for $4 per 3rd-8th grade ADM (Home Base opt-in required).

If you or other leaders within your PSU would like to learn more about Transcend, we have scheduled two informational webinars. These will be recorded and posted for those who are unable to attend. Please see below for dates, times, and registration links. Feel free to reach out to john.mairs@dpi.nc.gov or jeffrey.hauger@pearson.com if you’d like to speak to someone about Transcend for your PSU in detail.
