NC Teachers of the Year Advocating on Capitol Hill
Maureen Stover and Mariah Morris were on the Hill advocating for NC teachers and students. They used their seat at the table to advocate for:
universal pre-kindergarten
wrap around services for our students who are navigating a global pandemic
our current teachers who are working with increased pressure and stress during the pandemic
literacy support for our youngest learners
innovative recruitment programs such as Teaching Fellows and Troops for Teachers
recurring federal funding for human capital
increased funding for reading interventionists and TAs for literacy initiatives
federal testing flexibility.
500+ registered guests enjoyed the conversation about Covid, the new normal, assessments and prioritizing people and resources as much we did. #NSTOY19
One of the greatest honors of my professional career! This is for #NTOY19 #NCTOYPOY and NC Public Schools! #educatordiplomats #beginswithateacher - Freebird McKinney
