We can’t avoid or ignore the many challenges educators continue to face due to the pandemic. However, we can leverage this moment in education to build back a stronger foundation for ELA learning, through the implementation of three specific strategies.
In this edition of the ELA SCOOP: #SettingTheStandard, we will provide an overview of each of the three strategies. Throughout this school year, our following editions of the SCOOP will dive deeper into each strategy and what each could look like in the context of an ELA classroom.

#SettingTheStandard PD Series
Want to learn more about #SettingTheStandard? Attend our #SettingTheStandards PD series! This series will consist of four sessions offered by grade-band. The goal of the professional learning series is to allow educators the opportunity to learn from, engage with, and be supported by the information and resources provided. The series will consist of:
- Session 1: Understanding the ELA Standards
- Session 2: Learning Progressions and PLCs
- Session 3: Read Alouds
- Session 4: Text Sets
The content of the first session in the series addresses #SettingTheStandard Strategy #1: Access to Grade-Level Standards and will take place on November 2nd at 3:45 PM. This session will provide participants with essential, core knowledge about alignment to the NC ELA Standard Course of Study.
