Whether you conducted classes online, face to face, or in a hybrid fashion during the 2020-2021 school year, education was different for students, staff, and families due to the pandemic. Although not everyone was affected in the same ways, many experienced stress, trauma, and grief—effects that will likely continue when the new school year starts. Join Jen Alexander—experienced educator, trauma expert, and author of the bestselling books, Building Trauma-Sensitive Schools and Supporting Students and Staff After COVID-19—to reimagine schooling in trauma-sensitive ways.

Attendees will:

  • Discover what you missed and didn’t miss during pandemic schooling, whether you were online, face to face, or working in a hybrid model

For many teachers, supporting students’ mental health will be a focus for the 2021/22 school year. Social and emotional learning is considered a key part of helping students cope with the impact of the pandemic and feel connected and “known” at school. This Webinar will provide practical strategies for creating a space where academic and social-emotional goals are integrated with content and culturally responsive pedagogy. Teaching with audio stories can help students and teachers get to know each other, develop and practice important skills and competencies, and establish a positive classroom culture. Attendees will leave with strategies on how to create lessons that encourage student self-reflection and explore topics like mindfulness, self-efficacy and growth mindset, perseverance, responsibility, empathy, and gratitude.

Lighting the SEL Fuse for K-12 Learning Growth

Wednesday, September 15, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Register Here

Emerging from pandemic schooling, it is tempting to return to routine academics in the name of learning recovery and acceleration. Instead, research suggests the first priority should be (re)establishing student connectedness with empathy and inclusiveness foremost. Student self-view, intrinsic motivations, and well-being are critical to their readiness to learn in fall 2021 and beyond. Join experts and practitioners on how to build an SEL program and integrate instructional practices that recognize social-emotional well-being as the fuse to learning recovery and ongoing student success. This webinar will examine research-based practices and share success stories of schools and classrooms that prioritize student supports and community across the curriculum with a focus on virtual and blended learning.

Aligning Data-Driven Social-Emotional Behavior Interventions to Class and Student Needs

Wednesday, September 22, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Register Here

Research shows that social-emotional behavior (SEB) functioning is foundational to academic success. As districts see an increased prevalence and range of SEB student needs, teams are grappling with how to align the right supports so students can move forward in learning. How can districts use data to meet the SEB needs of all learners without depleting their specialized resources? And how can educators select effective, targeted SEB interventions for students most in need?

 This session will:

  • Focus on the questions to ask before placing a student into an SEB intervention
  • Explore data points to consider before placement
  • Discuss bolstering Tier 1 practices to drive system-level resources and reduce the number of students requiring intervention services

Ideas to Join & Lead on 9/11 Day of Service

The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (9/11 Day), is a chance to help others in tribute to those killed and injured on September 11, 2001, first responders, and the countless others who serve to defend the nation’s freedom at home and around the globe.

September 11, 2021 is the 20th Anniversary of that tragic day. Join YSA on 9/11 Day of Service - step forward to serve in a remarkable spirit of unity, honor, and compassion. Remember, even a small act of service is a giant act of patriotism.

We encourage every young person to become a member of a youth development organization, every adult to help the young people they know to join, and for local clubs/chapters/affiliates of these programs to add service and to use service opportunities to recruit new members.
