We salute our school nutrition professionals for providing nutritious meals to our students everyday! We are especially thankful for their dedication and commitment to our students and families for mobilizing - literally overnight - to ensure students across our state continued to receive healthy meals when school buildings closed due to the pandemic.

Thank you, Newlin Elementary part of Alamance-Burlington School System, for welcoming Freebird McKinney and me, Kelly Poquette, Piedmont-Triad Teacher of the Year, to your school! Learning how the Holy Comforter Church supports students and teachers was empowering! Freebird, I love being your teammate and activating educators! Thank you Principal Conte for the Newlin Swag!

The #districtvisitsvoices Team has visited many programs across North Carolina and there are few as promising, as engaging, and as revolutionary as the CTE Construction Technology Program at Mountain Heritage High School. The students enrolled in this program are LITERALLY building houses for families in their community, recently for their retired mentor, teacher, and the program’s namesake, whose home burnt down.
Jeremy Dodd, the Construction Technology Teacher now leading the program, talked about the excitement his students exhibit EVERYDAY they are in his class. “I tell them, ‘Have you heard of the Pythagorean Theorem? Well today I am going to teach you how to apply it. We are squaring walls and setting roofs!” I am envious of a teacher who gets to walk through the entire process of anything, from start to finish, from the first nail in a board to when they roll the house off school property, from blueprint to windows, these students live and breathe the acquisition of trade skills desperately needed in the workforce. We cannot wait to return and witness “the day the lumber shipment arrives” the most exciting day of the year. Dodd says. “It’s on that day I show them what it is and lead them to what it will be.” Inspiring and impactful, we cannot wait to meet the next group of students who will sign their names to that last board.
Thank you, Superintendent Kathy Amos, for an amazing day visiting Yancey County Schools and ALL that your team does for your community! Your heart and leadership is humbling and it is imbued in each leader we met, whether it was the CTE Director, the Principal, or the Teacher. A true “Village Educator” mindset. We will be back…
Whether it’s fire training, culinary arts, “Teaching as a Profession”, or STEM, Henderson County Innovative H.S. at Blue Ridge Community College, has it ALL! What a transformational partnership!
Thank you to Superintendent John Bryant (Elon University School of Education graduate ) and President Laura Leatherwood for sharing this remarkable school with the #districtvisitsvoices team. We had such a great afternoon building this partnership out and meeting district leadership. Also, we thoroughly enjoyed listening to the presentation on JAG and how we can expand these opportunities to our students. We look forward to our return visit to work with the “Teaching as Profession” program, a CTE pathway supporting aspiring educators. This is a vital component of the statewide commitment to furthering apprenticeship and internship opportunities within public education. We cannot wait to meet your students. See you soon!
Thank you Transylvania County Schools and Superintendent Jeff McDaris for an insightful opportunity for the #districtvisitsvoices team to listen and learn to the many ways you serve the students and community members of Brevard, NC.
We loved working with your BT’s and Teacher Leaders and cannot wait to watch the impact they will have in your schools and classrooms. The #ncteachertalks team looks forward to returning and learning more from school leaders like Dr. Bryan Abernathy of Brevard High School. What an empowering advocate and leader. We will be back!

We could not have been more excited to visit Transylvania County Schools and see my friend and #eduhero Kevin Smith. What this dude has done for our state and our profession is humbling and mind blowing. Thank you brother, you are a #storyteller like no other @NCSPRA #educatordiplomats and I cannot wait to partner in your work with North Carolina Education Corps.

Buncombe County Schools, the #ncteachertalks team was so excited to learn about the “Essential Educator Housing Initiative” (rebranded, thanks Susanna Schell Cerrato) we witnessed today. This is an exemplary model of community partnership and buy-in and one that is THE answer to the challenge of affordable housing for our NC educators. Looking forward to sharing this model with other statewide partners and building a coalition of support to make this a reality across our state. 24- 2 Bedroom/ 2 Bath UNITS! Wow!
Huge shout-out to Eblen Charities and SECU for their commitment to ensuring Buncombe County teachers are valued and cherished for their dedicated public service. An exemplary effort our team hopes will shed light on how multiple community organizations, including the county commissioners, collaborated to make a vision and idea, actualized.
Thank you, Superintendent Tony Baldwin and Assistant Superintendent Susanne Swanger, for taking the time to “teach” us about this initiative and greatly appreciative for your visionary leadership in supporting your teachers. Looking forward to doing ALL we can to expand this opportunity across NC.
