welcome

Welcome Back to A New School Year!

We have a few updates and reminders for Read to Achieve.

  1. Read to Achieve Updates:
  • As all of you are aware, North Carolina continues to move forward with providing our youngest readers with research and evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading using Amplify’s, mClass DIBELS 8th Edition as the assessment tool for all K-3 Formative and Diagnostic Reading Assessments.
  • mCLASS includes benchmark assessments and ongoing progress monitoring to comprehensively support each student’s literacy development with foundational reading skills assessments.
  • During the 2021- 2022 school year, NCDPI will begin using DIBELS 8 data for EVAAS purposes from BOY-EOY for all K-2 teachers. Third grade will continue to use BOG-EOG for EVAAS.
  • North Carolina will NOT use Text Reading Comprehension (TRC) assessments for K-3 students beginning the 2021-2022 school year.
  • mClass supports both English and Spanish Statewide Assessment.

2.
How do you get access to DIBELS 8?

  • DIBELS 8 uses Single Sign On (SSO) authentication to login via the NCEdCloud IAM Service. PSU staff and K-3 students will see the Amplify icon displayed in the NCEdCloud IAM Service starting on July 8, 2021.
  • How to login to mClass?
    • Login to mClass DIBELS 8 :  Prior to logging into mClass DIBELS 8, please make sure you have gone into PowerSchool and assigned an mCLASS role for all of your staff (both ELA and Spanish) involved with the mCLASS system or they will NOT show up in the nightly PowerSchool integration. Please note, if the user is listed multiple times, the system will default to the lowest level role; therefore, users should only have one role.
  • Log in to the NCEdCloud IAM Service at my.ncedcloud.org.
  • Click on the Amplify icon on the ‘My Application’ tab.

Please read carefully the PowerSchool mCLASS roles below (Only One Role should be Assigned per user per school):

● Read to Achieve Administration (System Access)

Allows staff members to view all assessment results, modify staff and student rosters, and create classes. This is the highest level of access to the Amplify system.

This level is intended for Administrators, Technical Support, School System Manager, Literacy Coach/Facilitator, and Master Literacy Trainer. This is the highest level for mCLASS and allows users to access the Admin Tab on the home page.

● Read to Achieve Specialist (Full Access)

Allows staff members to view all assessment results and modify their personal information. This level is intended for Administrators who need to view but not maintain the mCLASS system, as well as Specialists working with multiple classes. Principals, Assistant Principals, EC teachers, and grade level teams may fall in this category.

● Read to Achieve Teacher (Standard Access)

Allows staff members to view their classes’ assessment results and modify their personal information. Intended for classroom teachers.

This level is intended for classroom teachers.

Assigning Staff Role(s) in PowerSchool

Follow the step by step instructions in the QRD - PS QRD: PowerSchool Roles for RTA - Google Docs to assign roles to your staff.

3. Coding Reading Retained Students:

Please make sure that the PowerSchool data manager codes the Reading Retained Students in PowerSchool by mid-November to determine funding for twice-retained students and for archival.

If you have question pertaining to these roles, please contact the Home Base Team at home_base@dpi.nc.gov.

NCDPI and PowerSchool have scheduled the 'Target Plans' overnight process to take place Friday, July 9, 2021. Additional details for NCEES Administrators will be posted in the NCEES Updates Bulletin. District and Site Admins may begin setting Plan Types on the My Staff Page. See help guide: My Staff - Assign and Manage Plan Types Guide for assistance.

All 2020-2021 Evaluations and Professional Development Plans were archived on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Archived plans are no longer editable. Please see below for how to access the archived plans:

  • Staff members can find their archived plans by navigating to: My Evaluation > Archived Evaluations tab.
  • Administrators - can access past year plans (depending on your access rights) by navigating to: Staff Evaluations > Click on the 3 stacked lines on the left and then click on the Plan Type by year you would like to view. A list of every staff from that selected Plan Type/Year will populate based on your access rights.
  • NCEES District & Site Admin - As of 7/5/2021- May begin setting My Staff > Teacher Plan Types or PDP Types for 2021-2022. Plans will not populate to staff until PS Support targets the new plans to the staff roles.

Administrators continue to watch for the weekly NCEES Updates bulletins for Post-EOY News. NCEES assigned District Administrators can find links to past bulletins on the Home page in the DA Dispatch channel.

Thanks to all for a great year in NCEES!

Report

Reminder:  Individual Student Reports in PowerSchool

Currently, select schools are piloting Individual Student Reports (IRS) functionality; however, the link is viewable to everyone.  The ISR link is at the bottom of the left menu bar in the parent portal listed as State Test Reports. Only parents of students in the pilot schools will be able to see the ISR. All others will see a message stating no reports are available.

Upon successful piloting, populating ISRs into the PowerSchool Parent Portal will become available to all public school units in the 2021-2022 school year. We wanted to make you aware of this addition in the event there are questions from parents or others.
