Good Afternoon AP/IB Coordinators,

System Update

Welcome back

Welcome back from your spring break or time away to rejuvenate and prepare for the end of the 2020-2021 school year. There are a couple of updates with deadlines I share with you today:

  • IBO billing for M21 Exams- deadlines
  • State Board of Education Policy proposal survey- deadline
  • NCDPI social studies options chart

International Baccalaureate Billing Communication

IB M21 Exams

This is a reminder that NCDPI will continue to cover funds for IB exams, with late registration fees as the exception. See exam fee guidance and please be aware that NCDPI will receive the invoice directly from the IBO. You may receive an invoice inadvertently, as the billing process was delayed this year.

Additionally, with alternate plans in place again this year, the withdrawal deadlines below have been communicated through IBO and should be followed to ensure clear invoices and no financial penalties for schools:

  • Any senior unable to fulfill, or not planning to complete, the DP assessments should be withdrawn as soon as possible and no later than April 30.  Any junior unable to fulfill, or not planning to complete, DP assessments should have a conversation with the DP Coordinator about deferring their registration.  Registrations should be deferred to November 2021 or May 2022 as soon as possible and no later than April 30.  If they do not wish to defer, they should be withdrawn as soon as possible and no later than April 30.
  • If all assessments for a student are not submitted, resulting in an “N” as a grade, the school will be billed for the subject assessment fee(s).
  • If a student is sick and cannot take the exam(s), follow the adverse circumstances policy applicable to your school’s scenario (exam route) available on the programme resource centre.  If appropriate procedures are followed and a student receives an “N”, NCDPI and the IB will work to ensure that the student/school is not billed for that “N”.

Please email Beth Cross with NCDPI or Laura Lane with IBO if you have any questions.

Advanced Placement Policy Update Survey Request

Important updates regarding NC high school social studies course options

At the April meeting of the State Board of Education last week, potential changes to two policies were discussed. We would really like to hear from you about the proposed changes. The link below will take you to a survey to view the proposed policy changes and provide your feedback on those changes.

Click HERE to find a chart that can help you make determinations for class selections for high school students. The information is included in the GRAD-004 policy, but this chart might help to clarify the information and avoid any confusion.
