March is Arts In Our Schools Month! NCDPI would like to continue our beloved tradition where school groups share their favorite music, dance, theatre, spoken word, and art with NCDPI staff, friends, and family. This year, we want to showcase the best and brightest of our student artists online by asking school groups to provide *recorded* performances and art galleries that we can schedule to livestream on the NCDPI Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/NCPublicSchools. We encourage your school group to share dance, choral and band performances as well as visual art galleries.
These recordings can be from *ANY* Time of year:
They don't have to be from this spring!
Please try to keep these things in mind: • 3-10 minute performance length (Generally 1-3 awesome songs) • Student song introductions are very impactful. • VISUAL ART galleries should be in a single Google Slide Deck per school. On each slide should be a student's artwork, their name, and their grade level. You can share the link in the "Any Questions" box below. (If you do not have access to Google Slides, please contact us for another solution!) • The performance should reflect the NC Arts Education Essential Standards. Highlighting the standards in the performance also makes a huge impact! • Represent the diversity of the students in our state/your school • Performances are limited and scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis • We love to celebrate you and your administrators for supporting Arts Education in the state. Feel free to feature them! • We will livestream your performance at 11:30am on the appointed day
Rolling applications will be accepted at http://bit.ly/3b9iY1D
to be featured throughout the month of March!
Please submit your video by March 19th.
Not sure how to create a video submission? Reach out to Brandon and Sayward!
For school groups performing musical pieces, please ensure that you have secured the appropriate rights and permissions. We ask that you submit a copy of the written permission from the publisher stating that your group may perform the selections virtually in the application form. Please be aware that if Facebook detects a copyright violation it will silence the video’s audio, or remove the video from the platform. We want to make sure that friends and family have the opportunity to enjoy the performances, especially if they cannot see the live stream at its scheduled premiere. If your group is performing original music or artistic work, then written authorization is not required.
The NC Symphony’s Tune-Up Workshop Series continues in March with NEW workshops for bassoon, oboe, and horn students. I invite you to share the workshops below with your middle and high school band teachers and students.
Middle and high school musicians are invited to join North Carolina Symphony musicians for a FREE virtual workshop. Learn tips and tricks for improving your technique and artistry during this one hour coaching session. 4-5 students will have the opportunity to perform solos/excerpts and receive direct feedback from NCS musicians. Interested performers may be asked to provide a letter of support from their teacher. Anyone is welcome to attend these workshops as an observer. Register via the links below.

Governor Cooper Eases Restrictions Venue Capacity Significantly Increased Sports, Movies, & Live Arts Treated Equally
|

On Tuesday, February 24th Governor Roy Cooper signed Executive Order 195 which eased a wide variety of operating restrictions affecting the arts. Arts NC is glad to see that several of the objectives of our advocacy with the Governor Cooper’s Office and NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) have been achieved, including safely raising limits on venue capacity and equal treatment of performing arts with sports, movies, and other events. All the changes in this Executive Order will take effect at 5:00pm on Friday, February 26th.
Most indoor venues will be allowed up to 30% capacity, capped at 250, and all outdoor venues will be allowed 30% capacity with no cap. Venue capacity limits do not include performers, athletes, or staff, only guests. Dance studios will be allowed up to 50% capacity, limited for social distancing, and museums will still be able to operate at 50% capacity, but now without limiting each room to 25 persons.
In addition to these changes, the 10:00pm curfew will be lifted and alcohol can be sold until 11:00pm, including at bars which will now be able to open at 30% capacity, capped at 250. The size limit of social and other gatherings not otherwise addressed in the Executive Order will be raised from 10 to 25 people indoors and will remain at 50 people outdoors.
Arts North Carolina will continue to represent the arts and arts education sector with the Governor Cooper’s Office and NCDHHS as we to continue reopen our state and restart the arts. We are fortunate to have strong advocacy partners in this work including the NC Theatre Conference, NC Presenters Consortium, and NC Independent Venue Alliance, as well as our state government partner the NC Arts Council.
If you have any questions about the Phase 3 of Reopening and the arts, please send them to OpenArts@ArtsNC.org.
