NCDPI World Language Winter Series Webinar

Analysis of the World Language Essential Standards

WL webinars - Winter 2021

Structure & Instructional Toolkit Components

4:00 - 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 20

The World Language Winter Webinar Series gets underway this week with the first broadcast focused on the structure of the World Language Essential Standards. We'll be looking at an analysis of research, impact, and lessons learned from implementing proficiency-based standards, along with a comparison of other state and national standards to what we use in North Carolina.

Join us on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm by submitting this form (also linked on the graphic at right) to register.

All K - 20 World Language administrators, teachers, post-secondary instructors, professors, and researchers are welcome to join us!

Instructional Toolkit Components

We will also be examining the Instructional Toolkit components as part of the Winter Webinar Series. All of these tools are posted on the Standards page or tab of the World Languages Google Site. For the January 20 broadcast, please download the following Instructional Toolkit resources for our discussion that apply to the language(s) you teach and/or supervise:

  • Administrator Guides - These are "Look-For" documents created for principals and other administrators that have an overview of each K-12 program, information about our state standards and goals, and a compilation of best practices.

  • Clarifying Objectives by Course Outcomes (COCOs or CO2s) Documents - These are standards-based curriculum writing documents used locally by individual, department, school, or district. They are available for all courses in our state standards and posted on K-12 language-specific pages with explanations of each program woven throughout. Each page also includes details about dual language/immersion (DL/I) literacy and heritage language programs, as well as links to advanced learning programs such as AP, CIE, and IB if applicable for the language.

Renewal Credits & Archived Materials Available

Individuals who actively participate in the live broadcast of a webinar from NCDPI World Languages can earn contact hour(s) towards a CEU for licensure renewal. The contact hour comes in the form of an email with an attached certificate approximately one week after the broadcast.

Note: Local Education Agencies (LEAs) or districts and charter schools, also called Public School Units (PSUs), must approve professional development offerings.

An archive of the materials from each webinar (presentation slides, handouts, hyperlinks, etc.) and a recording of the broadcast are posted approximately one week following the live broadcast so that these materials can be used and/or adapted for local professional development.

Please see all of the 2020 - 2021 webinar offerings posted on the Webinar Series Information page of the World Languages Google Site, including all of the broadcasts for the Winter and Spring Series.
