Charter School Advisory Board - January 2021

The North Carolina Charter Schools Advisory Board met remotely on Monday, January 11th and Tuesday, January 12th.   

 

Meeting agendas are available on the State Board of Education’s (SBE) website under the Meetings tab. There you can also find presentation materials for each agenda item, where applicable.

The NC Charter Schools Advisory Board meetings are live-streamed and available on the NCDPI YouTube Channel. Please make sure you go to the “Home” tab when listening live. Following live meetings, the videos will be held under the “Videos” tab until titled and filed under CSAB videos on the NCDPI YouTube channel.

Applications and Renewals 

2020 Charter School Application Updates

CSAB heard from four applicants at the January meeting. These are the final first round applications for this application season: New Haven Global Academy, Dogwood Classical Academy, Oak Hill Charter, and Wayne STEM Academy. Dogwood Classical Academy was approved for a second round interview in February and the remaining three were denied.  

 

Renewals 2021

CSAB discussed and voted on all 2021 renewal schools. Schools received renewals ranging from ten to five year renewal terms.

 


Amendments

Amendments

The CSAB heard a variety of amendment requests this meeting including a relocation, second one-year delay, enrollment increases, and weighted lottery requests. All were approved.

Upcoming CSAB Meetings

Remote meeting – February 8-9th. This meeting may be shortened to a one-day meeting, February 8th. Public notice will provide more information a week prior to the meeting.
