Finding Your Way Through Conflict: Getting Started

Tuesday, October 13, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

Conflicts are inevitable, often hard to navigate, quick to multiply and become unmanageable—and they seem to be everywhere right now! Authors Chris Amirault, Ph.D., and Christine Snyder, M.A., are here to help in this free webinar.

Using engaging, real-life scenarios, Chris and Christine will discuss the critical principles and attitudes required for successful conflict engagement. They’ll also introduce concrete strategies for resolving conflicts in your workplace that will encourage you to strengthen your relationships, create more equitable communities, and improve your impact on young children.

Chris Amirault, Ph.D., and Christine Snyder, M.A., are coauthors of Finding Your Way Through Conflict: Strategies for Early Childhood Educators.

National Bullying Prevention Month

Every October, schools and organizations across the country join STOMP Out Bullying™ in observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal of the Character Matters Anti-Bullying Campaign is to bring awareness to the issue of bullying and what schools and communities can do and are doing to stop it. We want to encourage students to share the message that Character Matters and bullying is not acceptable in North Carolina schools and communities.

  • October 21: #UnityDay--Wear Orange to Prevent Bullying and Promote Kindness

Access free distance learning resources to use in your virtual classroom or to continue engaging students in social-emotional learning and bullying prevention.

Below are resources to help you plan for National Bullying Month:

Your Vote, Your Voice Service Project

This month take the time to encourage youth to do this Simple Safe Service project from home!

Get Out The Vote: Learn about the importance of voting and civic engagement and take action to increase voter turnout in elections.

By election time, even if your students are not of voting age, they still have the power to learn, influence, and share their voice! This Current Events resource page can give you the support you need to lead conversations, activities, and lessons about voting, civic participation, and the power of voice and choice.

Social Emotional Learning Resources

The 3 Signature Practices when carefully chosen, effectively facilitated, and thoughtfully debriefed create a solid foundation of safety, consistency, and joy in adult and student learning environments. These signature practices create conditions for growth and learning across all five SEL competencies while using culturally responsive teaching strategies.

Resources:

NC SEL Standards Mapping Documents

NC SEL Standards Mapping Documents Table- these documents show connections between existing standards in twelve content areas and CASEL's Core SEL Competencies. Each document provides acknowledgments, an introduction, and activities & practices across each CASEL Core SEL Competency and standards alignment with each CASEL Core SEL Competency.
