ADVANCED LEARNING AND GIFTED EDUCATION

System Update

Greetings AP/IB/CIE Coordinators

Thank you for your hard work ensuring students are engaged in their Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Cambridge International coursework – even in the remote or hybrid setting in which you find yourselves at this time. Thank you for doing all that you are doing daily to ensure our students have the resources they need to continue to pursue excellence in their advanced coursework. This semester is moving quickly!

Here are a few updates and reminders from our division as well as International Baccalaureate Organization and College Board's Advanced Placement Program.

AP/IB/AICE Exam Fees Guidance 2020-2021

In Summer 2014, with SL2013-360 section 8.27, the General Assembly modified 115C.83.4A to enhance access and encourage participation in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses by appropriating funds to pay for all AP and IB exams for public school or charter school students who are enrolled in the corresponding AP/IB courses. In the summer of 2017, with SL2017-57 section 7.28, the General Assembly modified 115C-174.26A and SL2013-360 section 8.27 to include Cambridge International Education (CIE) AS-Level and A-Level courses as eligible advanced courses. This funding continues in the recurring budget. For individual program information, see the Exam Fees Guidance for 2020-2021.

International Baccalaureate Organization- from Laura Lane

  • The DP-CP Assessment calendar has been updated for the May 2021 session to reflect the changes in assessment for this session only. Please ensure you are aware of the changes and how they might impact your school community. Updated May 2021 DP CP Assessment calendar
  • As a reminder, the MYP Personal Project registration deadline is October 20, 2020 and the DP-CP subject assessment registration deadline is November 15. Any registrations completed after the deadline will incur late fees.
  • Further resources to support the May 2021 session are scheduled to be released in October on the programme resource centre. Look for news in IBIS when it is posted, and a global webchat will be hosted soon thereafter for coordinators to ask questions. The session will be recorded if one is not able to attend in real time. IB World School Managers Alicia D’Urbano and Laura Lane will work with the IBSNC Leadership to schedule a local web chat as well.
