2020 - 2021 DL/I Webinar Series

The NCDPI Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) Team provides support related to implementing K-12 DL/I programs effectively, including an annual webinar series. These broadcasts are scheduled from 3:30 - 5:30 pm Eastern on Thursdays, and have a variety of updates and resources for DL/I education, along with a featured professional learning topic and guest speakers.

 

All K - 12 DL/I administrators, teachers, post-secondary instructors, professors, and researchers are welcome!

 

Please review this year's offerings described below, which are also posted on the Webinar Series page of the DL/I Google Site.

 

Renewal Credits & Archived Materials Available

Individuals who actively participate in the live broadcast of a webinar from NCDPI DL/I can earn contact hour(s) towards a CEU for licensure renewal. The contact hour comes in the form of an email with an attached certificate approximately 2 weeks after the broadcast.

 

Note: Local Education Agencies (LEAs) or districts and charter schools, also called Public School Units (PSUs), must approve professional development offerings.

 

An archive of the materials from each webinar (presentation slides, handouts, hyperlinks, etc.) and a recording of the broadcast are posted approximately 1 week following the live broadcast so that these materials can be used and/or adapted for local professional development.

DL/I Summer Webinar on Online & Virtual Resources

Thursday, September 3 @ 3:30 - 5:30 pm

This session's professional learning focus will be on online and virtual resources for DL/I classrooms to help teachers bridge gaps and scaffold content so that students continue to build proficiency in the language they’re learning. We will continue to use the K-12 DL/I Programs bridging document, as well as other statewide curriculum supports. Guest speakers from various North Carolina DL/I programs will be sharing their local planning, professional development, and processes for implementing online and virtual resources.

 

DL/I Fall Webinar on Building a Strong K-12 DL/I Sequence

Thursday, November 12 @ 3:30 - 5:30 pm

This session's professional learning focus will be on building a strong K-12 DL/I sequence and its benefits to individual students, local communities, and our state. We will draw on the K-12 DL/I Bridging document linked above and feature guest speakers from various North Carolina DL/I programs to share their DL/I program success stories and their strategies for recruiting and retaining DL/I teachers, coordinators, administrators, and others.

 

DL/I Winter Webinar on Professional Learning

Thursday, February 11 @ 3:30 - 5:30 pm

This session's professional learning focus will include an overview of state, regional, and national opportunities from various organizations. Guest speakers will feature the programs at North Carolina’s universities that help prepare administrators and teachers to better lead and support educators and students in DL/I programs.

 

DL/I Spring Webinar on Advocacy & Community Buy-in

Thursday, April 22 @ 3:30 - 5:30 pm

This session's professional learning focus will be on advocacy and community buy-in, including North Carolina’s Global Education recognitions for students (Global Languages Endorsement or Seal of Biliteracy), schools (Global-Ready School), and districts (Global-Ready District), along with other designations from various programs and international partners. Guest speakers from across the state will showcase how DL/I programs have revitalized their communities and galvanized support for graduates who are bilingual and biliterate, ensuring that they have the capacity to engage in a globally-collaborative society.

DL/I Administrator Modules

NCDPI welcomes Dr. Joan Lachance, UNC Charlotte, for a three-session course designed to support Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) administrators in North Carolina. The course explores DL/I programmatic design, support, and expansion. This course has a maximum of 40 participants and is broadcast on Fridays at 8:30 am - 12:30 pm on October 9, 16, and 23.
