It also provides the opportunity to build global competency in students.The State Board of Education approved North Carolina Global Educator Digital Badge (GEDB) is available for the following educator categories: Teacher, Teacher Leadership Specialist, Library Media Coordinator, Instructional Technology Facilitator, School Counselor, Career Development Coordinator, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, Speech-Language Pathologist, Instructional Central Office Staff, Principal/Assistant Principal, Superintendent. EUnited Teacher Fellows

EUnited Teacher Fellows Program

 

Over the past six months, UNC’s Center for European Studies has been hosting the first cohort of EUnited Teacher Fellows. This fellowship is funded by the European Union (EU) with the purpose of teaching teachers about the EU, and allowing them to insert more of contemporary Europe into their respective curriculums. This cohort consisted of 12 teachers from all grade spans and disciplines:

On August 6, the EUnited Teacher Fellows virtually presented their final lesson plan projects.  Please go to the Fellows page to find links to the blog posts and other materials these teachers created, which you can use in your classroom.

 

The selection for the next cohort of EUnited Fellows will be announced later this fall. Details about the application process are online and questions can be directed to Allison Haskins at ahaskins@unc.edu

New Open Education Resource: Humanities in Class Digital Library

 

Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies has partnered with the National Humanities Center (HICDL) to add resources to a new Open Education Resource (OER) platform! The HICDL provides access to tons of great online educational content from a wide variety of world renowned content providers. Resources are tagged by subject matter, topics, and material type, making it easy to discover and combine content you need. You can also communicate with other scholars and educators across the globe on important issues. Register today to start enjoying the benefits of the Humanities in Class Digital Library. Save-the-date for the Sixth Annual Learning through Languages High School Research Symposium!

 

The Learning Through Languages (LTL) High School Research Symposium is an opportunity for high school students to conduct and present research on global topics in their world language of study. Through LTL, students write a global research paper, give an oral presentation, and design a visual to demonstrate key research findings-- all in the language they study! This program is designed to promote student learning in the areas of research methodology, digital literacy, and critical thinking and encourage the learning of new academic vocabulary. Eligible students include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian or Spanish students, including heritage speakers. Participating students are encouraged to be at Level III or higher.

 

The symposium will take place virtually Wednesday, December 9. Teams are selected to participate via application process; the application will be available soon.

UNC-Duke Consortium in Latin American & Caribbean Studies Book Sets

The Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies offers sets of books available for K-12 and collegiate level instruction free of cost. The Consortium believes it is crucial for young children living in a diverse society to be aware of their own cultural identities and embrace those of others. Through these collections, the Consortium hopes to support educators who foster cross-cultural awareness and teach their students about these important regions of the world.  To borrow these resources and learn more, visit their website.

 

World View Weekly Twitter Chat

Wednesdays @ 1:00 pm

 

UNC World View (@UNCWorldView) hosts weekly Twitter Chats on Wednesdays at 1pm EDT. Weekly chats bring educators together to discuss global issues and resources that can be used to integrate global themes in instruction. Educators are asked to review one featured resource ahead of each live chat. Resources may include a short film, article, podcast, poem or other resource that is available online. North Carolina K-12 and community college educators can earn Continuing Education Units (CEU) or Professional Development Contact Hours by participating!

To receive 1.0 CEU/ 10 PDCH you must:

  1. Review the featured resource for four chats. Resources are posted a week in advance via Twitter. Please follow @UNCWorldView and #WorldViewChats.

  2. Actively participate in four live Twitter chats by answering questions and responding to other participants. Weekly chats are 50 minutes long.

  3. Register as a participant seeking CEU by going to: Twitter Chat-CEU. Please note there is a $50 registration fee to receive CEU. There is no cost to participate in a Twitter chat if you do not want CEU/PDCH.
