In November 2019, North Carolina joined the Collaborating States Initiative (CSI) through the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and formed a CASEL Collaborating States Initiative team, also referred to as the North Carolina Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Implementation Team.
As a result of this collaborative work, the North Carolina SEL Implementation Team began leveraging existing connections between the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NC SCoS) and CASEL Core Social Emotional Competencies. This document was adapted from the insights, work, and experience of the CASEL Collaborating States Initiative team in Massachusetts, with contributions from staff at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and expanded by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s K-12 Standards, Curriculum and Instruction Division for use with the NC SCoS.
