Global Educator Digital Badge
How prepared are you to foster global awareness in your students or support that in your classrooms or schools?
The Global Educator Digital Badge provides an opportunity for educators to focus their professional development on developing their own global context and understanding of how to integrate global education throughout curricula. It also provides the opportunity to build global competency in students.
The State Board of Education approved North Carolina Global Educator Digital Badge (GEDB) is available for the following educator categories: Teacher, Teacher Leadership Specialist, Library Media Coordinator, Instructional Technology Facilitator, School Counselor, Career Development Coordinator, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, Instructional Central Office Staff, Principal/Assistant Principal, Superintendent.

2020 NCSLC Summit

The North Carolina Service-Learning Coalition (NCSLC) is pleased to announce that registration for our 2020 North Carolina Service-Learning Summit is now OPEN!
We are excited to host service-learning supporters and experts at Fayetteville State University as they share practices and valuable trainings surrounding how to start or enhance your students' service-learning experiences in an all-day conference open to teachers, students, nonprofit partners, community groups, and service-learning rookies and experts.
The theme of this year's summit is "Strengthening Communities through Service-Learning". There will be sessions for K-12 educators, Higher Ed, and Community Groups/Non-Profits.

Medal of Honor Workshop
March 11: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Register
This full day training will provide you with all the tools you need to bring the Medal of Honor Character Development Program into your classroom. This flexible, cross-curricular resource, which uses the Oral Histories of Medal of Honor Recipients, focuses on how students can use these examples of courage, commitment, sacrifice, integrity, citizenship and patriotism to influence change in their own communities. There is no cost for attendance; your school can be reimbursed for the cost of your substitute teacher. Middle and High School teachers from all subject areas along with counselors, coaches, and administrators are invited to attend.

Leadership Institute for Future Teachers
June 14 - 18, 2020
The NC State College of Education will host the Leadership Institute for Future Teachers (LIFT) Sunday, June 14 – Thursday, June 18.
LIFT is a five-day, residential program for students of color and bilingual students who are rising high school seniors in North Carolina interested in leadership development and also exploring a career in education. The program will be held on NC State’s campus with all expenses paid except for travel to and from Raleigh.
Students will have the opportunity to • Engage in intensive and innovative on-campus activities • Interact with statewide leaders in education • Enhance communication and leadership skills to be competitive for statewide and national scholarships • Develop friendships with like-minded high school students across the state • Be mentored by current NC State students who will serve as program co-facilitators • Receive ongoing encouragement and support after the program through digital engagement
In order to participate in LIFT, students must be nominated by high school counselors, teachers, principals, or parents, or they can self-nominate. If you know any students who could benefit from this opportunity, please nominate them by filling out this nomination form.

Nominate an Impactful K-6 Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics Teacher
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science. The PAEMST program is pleased to announce that the 2019–2020 nomination and application cycle for K–6th grade science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teachers is currently open.
The Awards were established by Congress in 1983 and are administered by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The President may recognize up to 108 exemplary teachers each year. Presidential Awardees receive a certificate signed by the President; a trip to Washington, D.C., to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities; a $10,000 award from NSF; and join a prestigious cadre of more than 5,000 teacher-alumni from across the nation.

The 2019–2020 nomination deadline is March 1, 2020, and the application deadline is May 1, 2020.

Presidential Awards Selection Committee
The North Carolina Selection Committee for the Presidential Awards evaluates applications to determine the North Carolina Finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The NC Selection Committee is looking for qualified and experienced reviewers.
Reviewers should have:
- At least 5 years of teaching experience
- Experience giving descriptive feedback
- Experience using a variety of instructional practices
- Content area expertise
The review of the applications will take place through two rounds during the month of May. The first round will take place during the first half of May. Reviewers will be asked to individually evaluate 4-5 applications online. During the second round, a smaller group of reviewers will be asked to evaluate at most 5 applications, ending with an online meeting to come to a group consensus on the finalists and provide feedback.
Previous experience with the Presidential Awards is not necessary and training will be provided for all selected reviewers. Certificates for contact hours, which may be used for CEUs, will be awarded based on the training and the number of applications reviewed. Minor compensation will be available to reviewers.
