2019 Charter School Applications

The Charter Schools Advisory Board began reviewing the 2019 Charter School Applications at its September meeting. A total of nineteen applications were submitted, five Fast-Track/Accelerations (to open in Fall 2020) and fourteen Traditional timeline applications (to open in Fall 2021).

The CSAB completed all full interviews at its January meeting. A total of six traditional timeline applicants are being recommended for approval to the State Board of Education (SBE). The SBE will discuss these applications in February and vote in March. Those schools approved by the SBE will move into the Ready to Open process.

January Presentations

In addition to interviews, the CSAB heard presentations from Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies, Tillery Charter Academy, Monroe Charter Academy, BLUE GREEN Academy, and NC Cyber Academy.

Amendments

The CSAB recommended approval of two amendment requests: Alamance Community School’s mission statement revision and Charlotte Lab School’s High School Expansion. Those recommendations will be forwarded to the SBE for consideration.
