2019 Charter School Applications

The Charter Schools Advisory Board began reviewing the 2019 Charter School Applications at its September meeting. A total of nineteen applications were submitted, five Fast-Track/Accelerations (to open in Fall 2020) and fourteen Traditional Timeline applications (to open in Fall 2021).

Six applications were submitted for schools in Mecklenburg County and two were submitted to open in Guilford County. Bladen, Buncombe, Chatham, Columbus, Durham, Edgecombe, Greene, Pitt, Robeson, Scotland, and Wake each had one application submitted to locate there.

Accelerated applicant recommendations were approved by the State Board of Education (SBE) at its December meeting.

Clarification interviews were completed at the November 2019 CSAB meeting and nine applicants were forwarded to full interviews.

At the December meeting, CSAB began its slate of full interviews with six full interviews. The remaining three interviews will take place in January. The CSAB recommended that four of the six applicants be approved to move forward to ready to open. All applicant recommendations will go to the SBE for discussion in February 2020 and vote in March 2020.
