2019 Summer Science Institute Registration

2019 Summer Institute NCDPI K-12 Science:

Using the NRC’s Framework to Improve the Development

of Local Curriculum

 

Registration for this year's 2019 Summer Science Institute is open.

 

Institute Description:

During this two-day session, participants will support the improvement of local science curriculum by focusing on the three dimensions outlined in the National Research Council (NRC) publication, A Framework for K-12 Science Education.  Teachers will work collaboratively to review, adapt and improve existing science resources by incorporating the Scientific and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas.  State and national science resources will be shared.

 

Who is eligible?

  • K-12 Science Teachers
  • Science leaders working with grades K-12 who intend to use the workshop content with others in a professional development setting

COST: FREE! CEUs provided!

Participants are responsible for transportation expenses, meals and lodging, if required. Each participant will also need to bring a laptop with wireless capabilities and access to local curriculum materials (lesson plans for a unit of study).

 

How do I register?

Registration links are provided below for each session. Space is limited to 50 participants per session. Registration will be completed on a first come first served basis.

The Science House at NC State Presents: Modeling Institutes in Secondary Science Summer Workshop for Teachers

Grade Level(s): High School Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Science, & Middle School Science

Cost: $700

 

Description: Modeling Institutes provide professional development in secondary science through a research-based, reform-oriented pedagogy called Modeling Instruction for science teachers in North Carolina. To learn more about Modeling Instruction please visit the American Modeling Teachers Association.

 

2019 Summer Courses:

Modeling Biology - June 17-28, 2019 - Asheville, NC

Modeling Chemistry - June 17-28, 2019 - Hickory, NC

Modeling Physics (Mechanics) - July 15-26, 2019 - Raleigh, NC

Each workshop will be 10 days in length (Monday - Friday of each week) and cover 60 hours of professional development (six hours per day). Anticipated workshop hours are 9 AM to 4 PM.

The Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) program which previously supported our North Carolina Modeling workshops has come to an end, therefore we now must charge a registration fee to cover the costs of this professional development. Please note the registration fee does not include housing, it is the professional development fee only. Additional information on fees and housing is listed below.

 

Registration Fees:

  • $700 per course to be paid by credit card or check

Registration fees may be paid by credit card using the NCSU Reporter system. There is also a registration option for "pay later" in which an invoice is generated and you may pay by check. Additional information is included in the application link below. The total balance must be paid at least two weeks prior to the course start date or the registration may be cancelled.

Participants are responsible for their own travel and housing needs. Please contact Scott Ragan if you have questions about possible options.
