Classroom With a Cause

Make learning at the end of any academic period more meaningful. Add a cause students care about, and you can make learning about more than taking tests.

Classrooms with a Cause helps students to reflect on what they have learned, and then challenges them to apply their sparks, knowledge, and skills to address a cause – an issue important to them and to their community. The Classrooms with a Cause framework is also perfect for after school programs to wrap up the year or for summer programs and camps.

SEL and Trauma-Sensitive Schools

Presented by Kimberly Merath: Social and Emotional Learning Supervisor, Milwaukee Public Schools, WI

Every classroom has students who experience trauma. Schools can address these children’s needs and improve their ability to learn by implementing trauma-sensitive practices. In this informative edWebinar, participants will learn best practices for trauma-sensitive schools and how social-emotional learning (SEL) serves to support a trauma-sensitive approach.

The edWebinar will feature the work of Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS). MPS has implemented a thoughtful, research-based, comprehensive districtwide structure to create safe and supportive learning environments through a trauma-sensitive lens, with SEL as a foundational element. Attendees will learn the foundational elements of a trauma-sensitive approach to education, gain practical strategies to make the case for and build comprehensive trauma-sensitive supports in schools, and learn how SEL is a foundational support to trauma-sensitive schools. This presentation will be of interest to preK-8 and higher education teachers and school and district leaders.
