Application Season

This month’s meeting concluded the 2018 application season interview process. Two more charter school applicants were recommended for approval. In May the State Board of Education will review and discuss the charter school application recommendations CSAB has made during this application cycle. Final approval of charter recommendations will be made by the State Board of Education in June.  In addition, the CSAB discussed changes to the application process that will be recommended to the State Board of Education in future meetings.

Presentations and Discussion

The CSAB heard presentations from the following schools: G.L.O.W., Douglass Academy, Institute for the Development of Young Leaders, and Children’s Village Academy. The CSAB also heard several amendment requests. The discussion regarding NC Connections Academy’s request to terminate its relationship with Pearson OBL has been forwarded to the State Board of Education with no recommendation. The State Board of Education will take up the issue at its May meeting.

The Office of Charter Schools announced its official Twitter account to the CSAB. OCS hopes to raise awareness and promote positive news about our charter schools through this social media initiative. In addition, this will serve as another communication tool for the office.
