National DL/I School Directory & Website

Dual Language Schools.org logo

Have you heard of DualLanguageSchools.org?

The organization traces its roots from the Seal of Biliteracy movement, first in California and then nationwide.  Their mission is to create a community for dual language/immersion (DL/I) school leaders, educators, advocates and parents to help students achieve biliteracy through DL/I. This website is one way in which they are fulfilling that mission!

The site includes resources for parents, teachers and schools, such as:

The site is building a National Dual Language School Directory, and you can register your school and see who else is listed by clicking on the interactive map.  At the time this article was published, fewer than 20 of the 170+ DL/I programs in NC were listed, but you can change that fact!

Now that you know about DualLanguageSchools.org here are some steps to take:

  1. Register your DL/I program using the online School Registration form.
  2. Nominate an outstanding NC DL/I Teacher or an awesome NC DL/I School for recognition on the site. [Watch the site for information about when nominations open.]
  3. Check out the many resources on DualLanguageSchools.org.
  4. Share with a friend!

Also, this site has been added to the Resources page on the new NC DL/I Google Site.

Asia Society's TEQ Series of Instructional Videos for Chinese language teaching

NC's UCPS Chinese DL/I Classroom Featured in Asia Society's TEQ Series

Asia Society’s Center for Global Education recently shared this information in its Chinese Language Matters newsletter about the Theory/Enthusiasm/Question or TEQ Instructional Videos for Chinese Language Teaching:

We are pleased to share our newest TEQ installment, featuring Ms. Zejiao Li’s 2nd grade DL/I class at Kensington Elementary School in North Carolina’s Union County Public Schools, a member of Asia Society's nationwide school network.

Through several well-connected instructional steps, Li guides her students to learn and reinforce new words and apply them to their speaking and writing around the question, "What do you want to be in the future?" Each installment in the TEQ series includes a 30-minute edited classroom video interspersed with commentary, an accompanying lesson plan, an interview with the featured teacher, and an interview with the school administrator.

You can access the TEQ library, day or night, on the Asia Society webpage for these resources. at https://asiasociety.org/china-learning-initiatives/teq-instructional-videos-chinese-language-teaching
