Welcome to the Curriculum Leaders Update from NCDPI. This C and I Leaders Update is intended for LEA and charter curriculum leaders to stay up to date on important policies, professional development, resources, and announcements impacting public instruction from a standards, curriculum, and instruction perspective.  You are encouraged to also stay informed by staying in close contact with your Chief Academic Officer and to subscribe to any additional listservs of interest for more specific information regarding a variety of topics, such as grade-specific content listservs, legislative updates, etc.

 

We look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming Chief Academic Officers Meeting at the Connecting Communities of Education and Stakeholders Conference (CCES) on Thursday, March 21, 2019, from 9:00-11:30 in Guilford F-G at the Koury Convention Center.

 

The purpose of the CAO Meeting is to provide academic updates to CAOs and C&I Leaders; share opportunities to inform ongoing work; and to answer questions and provide resources for support. The meeting will include a welcome session from 9-9:30am, followed by three concurrent sessions on a variety of topics organized around NCDPI Initiatives; Policy and Legislation; and Standards, Assessments, and Accountability.

 

Registration for the CCES conference is not required to attend this portion of the conference; however, we ask that you indicate your intention to attend by completing this registration for the CAO meeting at this link:  http://bit.ly/CCESCAORegistration.

Cooperative Innovative High Schools – Letters of Intent to Apply Due April 22.

Are you interested in establishing a Cooperative Innovative High School (CIHS) in your school district for the 2020-21 school year? Do you want to provide innovative opportunities for dual enrollment grades 9-13 on site of a college campus? NCDPI announces the opening of the CIHS application cycle. We invite Superintendents and Institutes of Higher Education to jointly submit a Letter of Intent by April 22 to apply to open a CIHS. Please see the attached memo for more information. All CIHS applicant teams will receive application development technical assistance from NCDPI and the Join Advisory Committee throughout the application process. Questions? Professional Learning Opportunities and Resources

 

Secondary MTSS Webinar 

Please join us on March 13 (10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.) to hear the powerful story of secondary MTSS implementation told by Mark Balestracci and Lindsay Kett of Mashpee Middle-High School.

This webinar is intended for school and district leaders interested in MTSS implementation at the secondary level.

Please use this link to register. The webinar can accommodate up to 500 participants; feel free to share with the relevant audience in your district/schools. It will be recorded and a link to the recording will be emailed to all registered participants after the live event.

 

A+ Schools of North Carolina to Host Regional Information Meetings for Potential New A+ Schools

A+ Schools of North Carolina is the nation’s longest-running, most successful arts-based whole school transformation model. Newly released research on A+ demonstrates impressive results in school growth, student proficiency and narrowing the achievement gap. And A+ helps schools to build creative, engaging learning environments that allow students to master the state standards while developing their 21st century skills. Want to learn more? A+ is hosting two informational meetings for schools interested in joining the A+ Network. The meetings will take place as follows:

  • Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Cabarrus County Arts Council, 65 Union Street S, Concord, NC
  • Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, 3rd Floor Conference Room, 109 E. Jones Street, Raleigh, NC


These free regional meetings will offer information to school and district representatives about A+ Schools of North Carolina and the process for becoming a part of this highly successful, nationally recognized network of creative schools.
