SchoolNet

Updated Assessment Items in Schoolnet

DPI is excited to announce that over 30,000 assessment items in Schoolnet have been updated to reflect the recent changes in K-12 ELA and Math standards content. These NCDPI authored items are divided into two item banks - NCDPI_Classroom and NCDPI_Benchmark. Educators can use the advanced search feature in Schoolnet to search by publisher and enter the name of the item bank. The NCDPI_Benchmark item bank is restricted from classroom teachers unless they have been granted additional permissions in Schoolnet.

You can view a detailed standards coverage map with the updated items for NCDPI_Benchmark and NCDPI_Classroom item banks. If you notice any issues with the alignment of these items, please have your LEA Schoolnet lead submit a Home Base Support ticket with the item ID and a short justification.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information with your teachers and staff.

2018-19 Minimal Delay in Scores for Assessments with Constructed Response Items

The memo linked below was released by Eric Hall, Deputy Superintendent of Innovation, and Tammy Howard, Director of Accountability Services:

Some tests in the North Carolina Testing Program include constructed response (CR) items. These items require students to produce a written response, rather than select an answer from a list Student responses for CR items are distributed to human scorers. As a result, the CR responses are more time-consuming to score than traditional multiple-choice questions, producing a minimal delay in test scores. Due to the scoring of CR items, test scores that will be delayed include the following:

  • End-of-Course - English II
  • North Carolina Final Exam: English III

Kenan

Call for 2019-20 Kenan Fellowship applications

Applications for 2019-20 Kenan fellowships will be accepted through Jan. 21, 2019. These fellowships address the critical need to develop and empower high-quality teachers who can drive innovations that make learning more authentic and engaging for students.

The fellowship begins with a summer internship in a higher education laboratory or local industry setting and is supported by 80 hours of professional development that focuses on instructional leadership, elevating teacher voice, strengthening ties between the school and the local community, peer coaching and mentoring, and growing professional learning networks that extend beyond the school and local district.

Each Fellow is awarded at least a $5,000 stipend and must develop and implement relevant educational materials and/or programs based on their internship experience. Fellows remain in the classroom while completing the year-long fellowship.

Applicants must submit an essay detailing their desire to have influence beyond the classroom and two letters of recommendation. Final candidates are invited for an in-person interview to be conducted in their local area. Fellowships are based on funding and awarded each spring.
