Each year, DPI reports to the State Board Education (SBE) and NC General Assembly (NCGA) on the status of cursive writing and multiplication facts instruction. This report will go to the SBE in February 2019 and be submitted to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee (JLEOC) of the NCGA in March. Note that this report must include which LEAs are implementing cursive writing and multiplication facts instruction in their schools. A brief survey to collect this information will be sent out to district leaders in the near future.

Announcing the Navigator – the online marketplace for NC work-based learning resources
NCDPI, in partnership with the NC Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) and with support from Fidelity Investments, is announcing the creation of the Navigator, an online marketplace that makes it easier for North Carolina educators to integrate work-based learning resources into their classrooms. On Dec 12, educators will have access to the Navigator via NCEdCloud. The Navigator platform operates like an online shopping experience, only everything on it is free. The inventory is made up of employer-offered, work-based learning activities, ranging from guest speakers to apprenticeships. Educators can search by keyword, county, or by using any number of filters including career clusters and age of audience. The Navigator brings employers and educators together to increase real-world learning opportunities for students. Employers post opportunities, which we call resources. Educators log on and shop for those resources. Students gain increased access to work-based learning opportunities. And everything is free! On Dec. 12, the Navigator Icon will appear in the NCEdCloud IAM Service Applications screen (RapidIdentity Portal). The primary resource NC educators will find on the site at this point is access to Students@Work (job shadowing / worksite visit) opportunities. In January, there will be a roll-out of guest speaker, career competition, and career fair resources. In February, there will be new pages added to focus on NC jobs data and the integration of NC job opportunities. In March, the focus will shift to summer camp and internship opportunities (Note: All employers are vetted by the North Carolina Business Committee for Education.)
Local AIG Plan Development for 2019-2022
During the 2018-19 school year, LEAs and participating charters are working on revising the local AIG plans. These revised local AIG plans are due to the State Board of Education and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction by Monday, July 15, 2019. The plans are completed in the APEX online portal and are approved by the local board of education before submitting to SBE/NCDPI for review and feedback. Visit the Division of Advanced Learning and Gifted Education AIG website to find resources to support the local AIG plan revision efforts.
Additional Local AIG Plan Support

Please plan to visit the webinar series for support with understanding and planning for each of the program standards. The first webinar in the series will be hosted on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:30 and will focus on standard 6: Program Accountability. Find the registration information below.
January webinars will include Standard 1 (Student Identification) and Standard 2 (Comprehensive Programming within the Total School Community) – on Wednesdays, January 9th and 23rd respectively.
Please register for "Local AIG Plan - Standard 6: Begin with the End in Mind" on Dec 12, 2018 1:00 PM EST at: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2852955992312068866 This session is designed for AIG Coordinators who are working to revise and resubmit the Local AIG Plan.
Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM)
Recently, the dates for the Spring 2019 CDM window were shared with testing and accountability coordinators. In order to address many district concerns about winter weather conditions and the impact on students, the dates were moved to February 15-28, 2019. As other dates for the calendar year are announced, messages will be sent directly to your attention.
As has been previously announced, beginning with the Spring 2019 CDM window, students will again have access to both the NC Math 1 and NC Math 3 assessments in order to attempt CDM in these courses. Keep in mind, districts and/or charter schools will decide whether or not to administer the locally developed Phase II assessments immediately after the completion of the Phase I assessment or later when the phase I assessment scores have been returned to districts (we anticipate this happening to coincide with the start of the traditional school year calendar – 2019).
