NCDPI Office of Charter Schools (OCS) Updates
Office of Charter Schools: Did You Know?
The Office of Charter Schools collects application and renewal fees in accordance with G.S. 115C-218.1 for specific authorizing purposes. Application fees make it possible for OCS to retain the necessary external evaluators that are hired to provide feedback on all charter school applications. Each application receives evaluation from several hired external evaluators, in addition to OCS staff and members of the Charter School Advisory Board, as part of the preliminary application evaluation process. External contractors are also hired to conduct due diligence reports on applications when necessary. This year, OCS hired contractors to evaluate 35 applications. Additionally, renewal fees are collected to support the two-year renewal process for each school, including the mandatory renewal site visit in accordance with CHTR-007. This year, the OCS conducted comprehensive renewal reviews for 37 schools.

Required Epicenter Regional Training
Contact: jay.whalen@dpi.nc.gov
The Office of Charter Schools is rolling out Epicenter, a new document management platform to collect, store, and report charter school information. To make sure schools are prepared to use the system we are hosting four (4) regional trainings to introduce the system and allow school-based users the opportunity to practice using it. The School Leader/Director and one additional person are required to attend the training. Each charter school has the autonomy to select the second person as they see fit, knowing that this system will require document submissions for performance framework, renewals, amendments, etc.
