Reflections from Mr. Alex Quigley, Charter School Advisory Board (CSAB)

The Charter School Advisory Board met for its monthly meeting on October 8th. The highlight of the meetings was certainly the Office of Charter Schools’ presentation regarding the Charter School Performance grant. We have submitted for this grant multiple times over the past 3-4 years and been rejected each time. By successfully earning selection this year, Director Machado and the Office of Charter Schools have done a tremendous service to our state. This is a multi-year $23 million dollar grant that will ensure the growth of successful charter school models in our state with an eye toward equity. We look forward to working alongside OCS as they build the systems and structures to make this grant possible.

In other matters, we took some time to get an update from the virtual charter school operators and heard from a number of schools up for renewal. We look forward to next month when we will dive into our first round of clarification interviews. We hope your year is off to a tremendous start!

Amendments

The CSAB discussed two charter amendments this meeting and voted to recommend approval of each amendment to the State Board of Education.
