Essentials of College Math

Based on an extensive review of course content, student data, discussion and collaboration with our high education partners, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has elected to discontinue the inclusion of the Essentials of College Math (ECM) course as an acceptable fourth math course that fulfills the mathematics graduation requirement.

Thus, beginning with the 2019-20 school year, districts are to no longer use the course code 2408 for the ECM course, as it will be removed from the course code Master List.

Any questions or concerns regarding the ECM course or other options for mathematics graduation requirements for students may be directed to Beverly Vance, K-12 Mathematics and Science Section Chief at beverly.vance@dpi.nc.gov or call (919) 807-3936.

New Online Calculator in NCTest

Effective for the 2018-19 school year, the NCTest platform will offer a calculator feature for all calculator active sections on the EOG, EOC, NCFE, and the NC Check-In assessments. • grades 3-5 chose the "Four Function" button,
  • grades 6-8 choose the "Scientific" button, and
  • NC Math 1 and beyond click "Start Graphing" in red a the top of the screen.
